Police seek stabbing suspect Saturday, August 16, 2008
SCHENECTADY — Police are seeking a man who is suspected of stabbing another man during a large street fight early Saturday. Police received several calls about 1:15 a.m. concerning the house party at 1041 University Place that spilled out into a street fight. Reports from callers estimated 70 to 80 people in the street fighting, said police spokesman Patrolman Kevin Green. When officers arrived, they had beer bottles thrown at them by people in the crowd, Green said. The stabbing victim was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital and was believed to be in stable condition later Saturday. City police called Rotterdam and Niskayuna police departments for mutual aid to break up the fight, Green said. The suspect is described as a white male, 5-foot-7 and was last seen wearing a New York Giants jersey and khaki shorts. Witnesses told police that the man came out holding a piece of fence with a nail sticking out of it, Green said. That may have been the weapon that injured the other man, he said.
