Safari hat bandit wanted in Rotterdam bank robbery

ROTTERDAM -- Police are searching for a man who robbed a bank on Altamont Avenue earlier Wednesday.
The suspect entered the Citizens Bank at 1725 Altamont Ave. around 3 p.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money, police said. The teller complied by turning over an undisclosed amount of cash to the robber who was last seen fleeing on foot through an adjoining yard.
Police described the suspect as a 6-feet-tall white man with a medium build who is between the ages of 25 and 30 and has a scar on the left side of his face. He is clean-shaven, and was last seen wearing a dark jacket and a tan safari-type hat with a drawstring.
Anyone with information is asked to call Rotterdam Police at 355-7421.

I don't think he was praising the TU as much as he was lamenting the fact that we had to find out what's happening here from an Albany paper. Regardless of what it states, the TU seems to do more stories on Albany and even Rensselaer county than it does in this area of Schenectady county (Rotterdam, Princetown, and Duanesburg). If we have to count on an Albany paper for our hometown news, we'll be severely lacking potentially important information. This is why a forum such as this is essential for our community.

Police said a white man about 6 feet tall entered the bank at 1725 Altamont Ave. at about 3 p.m. He displayed what appeared to be a dark-colored semiautomatic handgun and demanded money from the teller. He then left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen in a yard adjoining the bank. The man was 25 to 30 years old, clean shaven, wearing a dark colored jacket, tan safari-type hat with drawstring, dark colored sunglasses and dark pants. He may have had a scar on the left side of his face. He was also carrying a dark laptop-type carry bag. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rotterdam Police Department Detective Division at 355-7421.

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. -- Rotterdam police continue to investigate an armed robbery at the Citizens Bank on Altamont Avenue. They've released surveillance images from the robbery and are asking for the public's help.
Police said a man walked into the bank shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday and demanded money from the teller at gunpoint. He got away with an unknown amount of cash.
He is described as 25 to 30 years old with a medium build and he might have a scar or a mark on the left side of his face.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Rotterdam police.
