Keramati the anti-Bruno, and Farley, Senate choice
Thank you for your fair and balanced editorial of June 25, “The good and bad about Joe Bruno.” Bruno used the rules to create a system of state Senate operations that shut out the opposition, provided the pork to guarantee his re-election, and supported his loyal senators who did the same. A prime example is Sen. Hugh Farley of Niskayuna, who has not only been a loyal follower of Mr. Bruno, but has neglected the legislative needs of his own district to spread “member items” cash. Unlike Mr. Bruno, Mr. Farley believes that his 32-year incumbency needs to continue, despite the fact that he’s been asleep at the switch on more than one occasion. Our democracy needs constant vigilance and attention. Leaders who use power at the expense of others do not serve us well. We need leaders who have a strong sense of ethics, the right expertise, and believe in the good that government can do by addressing basic needs rather than spreading cash. We have an opportunity this year to change the oppressive Senate created by Mr. Bruno. Specifically, voters in the 44th District have a chance to support a newcomer, my longtime friend and respected colleague, B.K. Keramati, who will bring to our Legislature the expertise he gained in a successful career as a GE leader and manager. It’s time for change, and voters need to take this opportunity to create a better government that will serve the public, not special interests. I never realized you could use the opinion section to write a political ad...if you're a Dem. Try doing it as a Republican / Conservative. Probably be told that this type of thing isn't allowed.
