Money mainly.  Such sites generate a lot of revenue, disgusting as it may be.  PLus, Comcast operates cable and internet in other countries, where having such a code of conduct may actually violate their laws.  Now, they'll porbably porfer up a "civil liberties" defense, and "privacy issues concerns," but it's a smoke screen for keeping cash coming in.  Not to mention their "out of pocket" costs for scrubbing thier servers and implementing blocking software.  It's all about the money here folks.

I agree with you and thought that myself. It just boggles my mind that even the largest of internet providers combined with the ACLU can actually find a reason for why these low life, scum bag sites should remain. Be it monetarily or by privacy rights. We are talking about the most disgusting part of our society....CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!

Eventually it is linked to even the most benign things we look at.....take the news/media giants like MSN/NBC etc.....they link and link and link and link and link (sometimes not even that far depending on what article you are reading) then BAM there's Mr.Flint or Mr. Heffners world....then it goes on and on and on and on link to link to link to link etc etc etc---infinite-----that is why it is called---

THE WORLD WIDE WEB......a web folks and we wove it...with words, pictures, $$, greed, etc..........

Senders makes an interesting point.  Some "news outlets" (and I use that term loosely), will link to anything on the net, no matter how reprehensible.  Most of the major outlets will not link directly to anything of questionable content (political campaigns aside).  They usually link to org's like INTERPOL, and various anti-Child porn web sites.  Even so, it raises a queation about news censorship by the government.  While I don't think that it would apply in this case (as directly linking could be construed as a crime), in other areas it could be the "open door" to more such action.  It's just a spectre at the moment, but will inevitably be used as an excuse not to clamp down on these criminals.  If only the Providers would just exercise some sense, it never would have come to this.

You said a mouthful here and made just too too much sense.

'the providers' are just like our esophagus that leads to our stomach.....it just doesn't keep our certain things....it lets it all in and then if there is bacteria we vomit or have diarrhea.....pretty much no different than our eyes/ears/brains.....garbage in=garbage out.........only the filter in our stomach and bowels works much better than our 'minds eye filter'........

Well, that was a colorful analogy.

It's still a bit off the mark IMO.  The providers should be more like our taste buds (to continue the analogy).  That's the first line of defense here.  If it tastes bad, you shouldn't swallow it.  If it causes a bad reaction, don't swallow it.  And for God's sake, don't take another bite just make sure it was bad!

This really never should have come to pass.  It never should have been necessary for the AG, or any other agency, to have gotten involved.  The providers should have been on top of this long ago.  But like I said before, it's all about the money.  They see the subscriber fees coming in, the ad revenues, the traffic fees, the hosting fees, the support fees, and all they saw was dollar signs (or Euros or Rubles, or Yen, or whatnot).  While it is encouraging to see at least the public appearance of these corporations stepping up, we have yet to see any actual implementation.  Time will tell.

This is one area where staff should be exapnded in certain agencies, like the SP, FBI, and even big city PD's.  The real problme in these departments is burn out.  They're under staffed, and the stress is astounding.  Turn over is high, as many in those departments barely last a year.  This is not easy work.  First off you have to "get over" seeing all those images day in day out.  That alone causes most people to leave the job quickly.  Then there's the whole tracking of these people.  They're as tech-savvy as anyone out there, sometimes more so.  They know all the tricks, and the guys and gals chasing them have to work through and counter each and every one of them.  The idiots are the ones who get caught in stings.  The real purveyors and producers are the ones who slip away, who know just enough more than Law Enforcement to stay ahead of them.  It's a brutally draining job.

To continue the analogy----who actually is born with taste buds to say coffee/alcohol/smoking(anything)  tastes good???? It is an aquired taste....usually associated with pleasurable surroundings---ie: Thanksgiving, family, friends, parties, feelings etc.......IMO....

As for the draining job----I could never have that job.....I would become police, judge and jury, and sentence.......very quick burnout for me.....

There are days when I think I could do the job.  Then I think about it for more than a second, and realize I'd do exactly as you Senders: Judge, Jury, Executioner.
