ROTTERDAM — A Rotterdam man was killed early Sunday when he lost control of his motorcycle on Burdeck Street and hit a guard rail about 1 a.m., police said.
Domenick A. Cusano, 20, of South Westcott Road, was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he died hours later, town police spokesman Lt. Jason Murphy said.
Cusano was conscious at the scene, but died later of internal injuries, Murphy said. He was able to tell police that he was distracted by lights before losing control. He was wearing a helmet.
There was no reason to believe alcohol was involved, police said, though no autopsy results were available.

Cusano was a 2006 graduate of Schalmont High School. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Pine Grove Fire Department, according to his obituary.
Domenick Andrew Cusano Rotterdam — Domenick Andrew Cusano, 20, of South Westcott Road, R o t t e r d a m , died in a tragic motorcycle accident near his home on May 18, 2008. D o m e n i c k was the son of Laura McNulty, of Rotterdam and Domenick Cusano of Albany. Domenick was a 2006 graduate of Schalmont High School where he played Junior Varsity football for two years and Varsity football for two years. He also participated in Varsity wrestling for four years. Domenick excelled in wrestling, being considered an outstanding wrestler in the Capital Region during 2006. While at Schalmont High School, Domenick attended the Capital Region Career Center and Technical School where he earned a Growth In Achievement award in building trades. He also attended Hudson Valley Community College as a carpentry major. Domenick worked as a baker in the family owned pizza business, Vinny’s Pizza in Albany. Other employment included working the food and beverage department at Union College, and as a cook in a summer camp located in Schodack, NY. Domenick was an active volunteer fireman for the Pine Grove Fire Department of Rotterdam, joining the department in his teen years. Domenick was a very hard working, kind, thoughtful and loyal young man, devoted to family, friends and duty. He was committed to helping his family establish and thrive in their pizza business, and to mastering the art of carpentry, his chosen vocation. As an active volunteer fireman, he was dedicated to helping his neighbors and anyone faced with a crisis situation. Domenick loved to spend his time outdoors, especially camping trips with his friends. During the summer, Domenick would go to DMB and Tom Petty concerts. He enjoyed collecting coins and had a very large collection. He loved spending time with his family and pets: Sandy, Dutchess, Midnight, Felix and Virginia. He spend much of his time at the Pinegrove Fire Department with his fellow firefighters. He also enjoyed partying with his friends, in the woods, near his home. Domenick is survived by siblings, Marco and (Lida) Cusano, Joseph Cusano, Elisa Cusano, Nicholas Cusano and Cristina Cusano, all of Schenectady and Rotterdam. He is also survived by his niece, Sophia Cusano. Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Capobianco of Ballston Lake; paternal grandmother, Concetta Cusano of Rotterdam; stepfather, Walter McNulty; step-siblings, Ashley and Walter McNulty; stepmother, Olga Cusano; and his girlfriend, Brittany Berrian. Domenick is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, step relatives and friends. Domenick will be deeply missed by all. Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening, May 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the DeMarco–Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral service will begin Thursday, 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at the I m m a c u l a t e C o n c e p t i o n Church, Schenectady. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady. There is a memorial at what I presume to be the scene of the accident. It's right near the Rt. 7 intersection, just near the first corner as you would be making the left to come up to the light.
Yes that is the spot where the accident occured. I believe it was the 1st or 2nd guard rail that he hit. Someone I work with was a good friend of his and said he only had his motorcyle for 1 month. What a shame. So young. And his poor parents. I can't even imagine the pain!
