* Mohawk Riverfront Revitalization Plan * Farmland Protection Plan * Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program * Hydrostratigraphic Investigation of the Great Flats Aquifer
I've searched Google till I'm nauseated - and can't find ANYTHING on these projects in Schenectady County. I found a LOT of Riverfront Revitalization in Colonie - but nothing in Schenectady. Searching for "Hydrostratigraphic Investigation of the Great Flats Aquifer" - all I get is this
Hydrostratigraphic Investigators and reports are EXTREMELY technical - does Gillen, or anyone on the "Economic Development and Planning" department REALLY have qualifications to read, interpret, understand and implement the findings in a Hydrostratigraphic report? I would wager to guess there's very few people in Schenectady County that do - although, having an aquifer, I'm sure theres SOMEONE - but I doubt that someone is Gillen, his predecssor or his replacement.
Anyone have any information on these projects? Anyone know why the Hazardous Waste Collection program is being assigned to our Economic Development Director? Jeff Edwards is the person responsible for the program, and AFAIK doesn't work for or report to the Economic Development office - and if he does, well, that's just plain SILLY
Schenectady county does practically nothing when it comes to hazardous waste collection. They will hand out a permission slip[ to take your computers and other electronics to the Taft parking lot in Colonie to wait in line for an hour to get rid of them. I live in Schdy County and I have to pay a private garbage collector to get rid of any hazardous waste that I may have so what kind of plan do they want us to think that they have.
Ray Gillen has NO BUSINESS being in the Business business let alone in the Hydrostratigraphic business. That is just what the dems do. They join and control every comittee available to man whether qualified or not. And who's gonna stop them? No one, cause they're all dems. They just continually appoint each other from one comittee or another.
The only time I heard Gillen's name was in an article in the Gazette, (or TU), that he was on the Watershed comittee regarding the aquifer. I wondered then what the heck he was doing on that comittee. Gillen must never ever sleep. He is on every project there is out there and they are all faling. The guy has got to go.

I believe that the "Mohawk Riverfront Revitalization Plan" may be the plan by the City of Schenectady with Metroplex involvement to redevelop the former ALCO site with the construction of a mix of housing, retail business and a marina. The Metroplex plan is to acquire the land, presently owned by the Schenectady Industrial Corporation, by friendly eminent domain. The property will be rezoned from industrial to mixed use. This project is a waste of public revenues, particularly because the construction of housing will not result in job creation (other than the temporary construction work). Further, it will eliminate a prime industrial site that possesses the infrastructure (rail lines, river transit, etc.) that is needed to support manufacturing operations.

Bumble is correct that the Democrats have embedded themselves in positions of control of government agencies, public authorities, etc. Below is the URL to a thread on the Schenectady Forum that cites many of the apparent conflicts of interest.
The uninformed voters have allowed this consolidation of power to continue. One-party rule in Schenectady County, with absolute control (by the Democratic party), will silence the opposition and ultimately result in the loss of personal freedoms and choice. The library construction plans and facility closure resulted from the majority party interests to advance their agenda.

The city can never become a 'useful' city with bottom industry like plastics, aluminum etc......they are trying to change the brownfields because all of us and those that live near and around those areas have become-----informed NIMBYS----
