Teen driver accused in Rotterdam crash By PAUL NELSON, Staff writer Monday, April 14, 2008
ROTTERDAM -- A teenager will be ticketed in connection with the head-on motor vehicle crash Sunday that brought down power lines and caused scattered outages, police said today. Rotterdam Police Department Lt. Michael Brown said a 17-year-old passenger in a sedan being driven by Cody Ogilvie had to be transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. But Ogilvie, also 17, and the two occupants in the other vehicle, a pick-up truck, escaped injury, said Brown. He declined to release the names of the others involved. The two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions along Curry Road at 8:30 p.m. as they approached North Westcott Road. Brown said Ogilvie tried to turn left onto North Westcott as the truck continued straight. The force of the crash sent the truck careening into a utility pole, snapping it in half, said Brown. Ogilvie will be issued a summons for failure to yield, said Brown. Curry Road between North Westcott Road and Guilderland Avenue was reopened around noon today and utility officials say power has been restored.
