What's up with the old Ferris's Tavern on Guilderland Ave?  It was sold at auction I'm told. An unmarked police car has been spotted there numerous times.

It was spotted there because the restaurant belongs to the police officer and his wife.

On Duty??

and besides that, I thought a Police Officer couldn't "own" a bar? Much like Katie O'Byrnes ??

Maybe it's in his wife's name. The police get breaks and lunch hours so he could be there on his own time.

I really don't care if cops own bars or not. REALLY I DON'T!! However, if the law states that they can't own a bar and serve alcohol....then they not only can't but are breaking the law if they do. And as far as placing it in someone else's name is just skirting the law if the intentions aren't honorable. And if they are caught in person or by photo serving alcohol, there should be consequences for them.

Otherwise, I hope that if they open it, they will have the good chicken wings that they were known for.

Maybe they're going to run the restaurant after he retires. I also hope that they have good food as well with good specials too.

"skirting the law" Good point. It maybe quite obvious what the intent really is here. Sounds like abuse of the "badge" to me. I'm also told that the new "bar" will not accept credit cards any longer and be a strictly cash operation.

I my view that will hurt the dining crowd. Who brings cash with them in this day and age of debit or credit.
To me that move would hurt business, why mess with something that was working well (If it isn't broke don't fix it).

Does anyone know who the cop is that bought it? Perhaps Shadow is correct that the cop may soon be retiring.

Cash is a wonderful idea, but unfortunately in this day and age most people do use credit and debit cards.  And everyone also knows that a 'cash' business is not completely traceable. Debit/credit cards and paper checks leave a paper trail behind. And that is what the government is moving toward is a cashless society.

B GAGE,

Get your head out of the sand! I suppose they also have a building permit. A quick look will show that one is not posted on the building.

It is foolish and ignorant to think that a cop in this town does not get special treatment.

The police are the backbone of the community.  If some formalities are overlooked to get the old Ferris's up and running again, so be it.  It's the least the residents can do for one of Rotterdam's boys in blue.

There is no such thing as special treatment of Rotterdam's officers.  Rotterdamians should be honored to have one of their finest opening an establishment in the town.  Even if it's not 100% legit.  Have a heart.

What nerve to come on this site and engage in such a slanderous post about one of Rotterdam's brave police officers.  Very disrespectful.
