Yes, no denying it's disturbing. However, I believe Obama's sincerity when he says he doesn't agree with all the views held by the pastor. Still, I'd be looking for a new pastor, if it was me.
Oh I believe he's sincere NOW ... but what about the statements this man has made for the past 15 years - and his "lifetime achievement award" to "Minister Farakahn" ? This man has a repeated, deliberate agenda - why wasn't it popular to denounce him before running for President? Instead, you've been married by the man, had your daughter "baptised" by him, had him "bless" your new house - and have him "for dinner" frequently.
If he was really disagreeing with so much of what he says/said - he should have denounced / seperated from him a LONG time ago.
NATIONAL BRIEFS The Associated Press Obama decries remarks from church pastor
WASHINGTON — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Friday denounced inflammatory remarks from his pastor, who has railed against the United States and accused the country of bringing on the Sept. 11 attacks by spreading terrorism. As video of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright has widely aired on television and the Internet, Obama responded by posting a blog about his relationship with Wright and his church, Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, on the Huffi ngton Post. Wright brought Obama to Christianity, officiated at his wedding, baptized his daughters and inspired the title of his book, “The Audacity of Hope.” Obama wrote that he’s looked to Wright for spiritual advice, not political guidance, and he’s been pained and angered to learn of some of his pastor’s comments for which he had not been present. Obama told MSNBC that Wright had stepped down from his campaign’s African American Religious Leadership Committee.
I just listened to Obama defending himself to Major Garret on FOX (replayed on Hannity/Colmes)
In this he says his pastor was an "EX Marine". Have you ever known ANY "EX" Marines? "Once a Marine, Always a Marine, Semper Fi"
Then he went on to say that statements were compiled out of hundreds of sermons he's given in the last 20 years. Barak and Michelle have attended that church since "1991 or 1992" (according to him) - about 17-18 years. So you're telling me that in 17 years, you've NEVER heard him talk like this? They've never risen to this level of atrocity? I think it was more convenient to "condem" the statements AFTER you announced your presidential aspirations. Maybe you never thought his sermons were recorded ?
Now, conveniently he's "retiring" - and according to this followup on Fox, he's "not been active in my campaign" ... yet, the news of his "leaving the campaign" never came until last night http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23634881/
