You guys have drug stores on every corner and we can't even get one out here. How can so many of them be profitable when they are right on top of each other? It seems that just one in D'burg with no others within a 20 mile radius to compete with would yield close to the same profit as one in Rotterdam when you consider the competition.

I wonder how long that vacant building will be standing there? Hopefully not as long as the old Curry Road Shopping Plaza has.

ROTTERDAM Redevelopment projects plod on BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Chain-link fencing now surrounds the dilapidated two-story building at the well-trafficked intersection of Curry Road and Guilderland Avenue. CVS Pharmacy bought the quarter-acre property in March but hasn’t come forward with any plans for demolishing the shabby building, which once supported three businesses and two apartments. Town officials believe the property is too small for the size of the pharmacy CVS wants to build, and the company’s efforts to buy adjacent land haven’t come to fruition. Then earlier this month, the pharmacy erected the unsightly chest-high fence around the perimeter of the property, which is about a block away from Town Hall. CVS representatives declined to discuss their intentions for the property, and there is no indication in the town’s planning department that a project will go forward anytime in the near future. Plans to redevelop the corner have been floated at least three times in the past, but the prospective builders were never able to purchase enough land to make it worthwhile. Now, CVS appears to be in a similar quandary. The corner lot is among several highly visible commercial properties around Rotterdam awaiting redevelopment. “We’ve got people and businesses looking, but it’s tough for these sites that are already developed,” said Peter Comenzo, the town’s planner.
The fence was put up to prevent injury to people walking past as the building slowly falls down over the next 10 years.
It is already starting to fall down. The gutters are hanging down, siding has been blown off and windows are broken. The town should contact CVS. The town should request or demand that even though the building is vacant, it should be repaired, at least to look presentable. And as long as they are not going to build there any time in the near future, renting/leasing it out could be an alternative.
