I've noticed that the alteration store is moving and the kitchen remodeling store is moving. Are they tearing that corner building down? Anybody else notice this? sorry if i missed seeing it somewheres on the website.
Maybe they are leaving cause they are afraid the building will fall down on them.
Seriously, I know that the kitchen remodeling place wasn't doing so good at that location and that was why they were moving. I don't know about the alteration place though. Has anyone really looked at that building lately? I seriously don't know how it is still standing. I did notice, on the Curry Rd side, that there is siding off on the upper level and there is an advertisement (I think) for a siding company.
It would be nice if they updated and repaired the building. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the owner is just waiting for a buyer and doesn't want to invest any money in it right now. That was what the owner of Capital Plaza did so perhaps this owner will follow suit.
And welcome to the club AngelaMO6!!

I drove through the 4 corners today. I noticed that the Nextel/Sprint store has moved. In the window is said that it has moved to a new location on Altamont Ave. across from the Burger King. It must be in that little strip mall. The entire building looks to be in need of major repair.
Walgreens was looking at that corner a few years ago. But we now know where that is going to end up! CAPITAL PLAZA! If they would just fix up that building, then perhaps it could house some small businesses that it does (did) now. Update it an make it more appealing and inviting to the eye.

Someone told me that a CVS was going in there. (shall we all scream now? ) I will be going to Rite Aid this afternoon to pick up my mom's perscriptions and I will ask them. I'm sure that if anyone knows for sure, it will be Rite Aid.

I went to Rite Aid and asked the girls at the pharmacy counter if they heard anything about a CVS being built on the opposite corner. They said that they hadn't heard anything. But they also still thought that all of the tenants were still open for business there. They didn't know that they had already moved out.
ROTTERDAM CVS buys building opposite Rite Aid Pharmacy chain denies plans for site BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Pharmacy chain CVS has purchased a dilapidated building at the intersection of Curry Road and Guilderland Avenue, for purposes not yet specified. Officials from the company confirmed Monday they have acquired the mixed residential and commercial building located across the street from a Rite Aid. But demolish the now-vacant building or develop the roughly quarter-acre large parcel, said Joanne Dwyer, a spokeswoman for CVS. “We purchased property at that site, however we have no future plans at this time,” she said. CVS purchased the property from Tom Meccariello of Rotterdam for an undisclosed amount. The property was recently assessed at $360,000, with about 4,000 square feet of retail space and 3,800 square feet of residential space. Meccariello said the deal between him and a developer representing the chain has been in the works for more than a year. He said all of the tenants from the building were moved out and the billboards on its roof removed in late January, before the deal finally closed last week. A resident living near Meccariello’s property who declined to be named said representatives from the pharmacy had discussed purchasing several adjacent properties, but the deal ultimately fell through. Mike Putorti, the owner of a commercial building next door on Guilderland Avenue, said his building “is always for sale,” but wouldn’t comment further. CVS already operates a pharmacy at the Five Corners intersection about a half mile away. The company also has Rotterdam locations in the Hannaford Plaza off Altamont Avenue and off Hamburg Street; CVS is also planning a store at the former location of the American Legion Post 1005 at Altamont and Chrisler avenues. Developers representing Walgreen’s Pharmacy are preparing to demolish Capitol Plaza at Curry Road and Altamont Avenue, after they received conditional approval in July 2006 to build a drug store on the property. Opponents of the project argued there were already too many chain pharmacies in the town and that another would merely displace viable businesses. Rite Aid completed a massive project last year to move its store from a former Eckard’s location on Guilderland Avenue about a half mile away to the Curry Road site. That project demolished three buildings, including seven apartments and two businesses. Planning Board Chairman Lawrence DiLallo said the town hasn’t received any plans for the Guilderland Avenue property. However, he said the lack of proposals hasn’t stopped rumors about a CVS locating on the property. “Those who I’ve spoken to about these rumors are wondering why we need another drugstore,” he said. We need a drug store for all the boomers....or CVS was just purchasing to lease????? Or, to open at a later date?....or as some Walmarts have been allowed to do was to have medical clinics......remember this is a cut throat industry especially when government money in the form of national health care is on the table.....the companies are all vying for top positions as managers of the 'animal'......will it be cheaper,,,sure,, as folks die......
CVS wants to be the 'first kid on the block' to offer such services....and I bet they look for concentrated areas of kids and elderly.......
