Fundraiser to aid Draper student ROTTERDAM — A bowling fundraiser to benefit Draper Middle School sixth-grade student Tyler DeMarco will be held on April 21 and April 26. DeMarco is currently facing his second battle with cancer. His family and friends are hosting a benefi t called “Tyler’s Tournament” at the Towne Bowling Academy on Altamont Avenue. The event will take place at 3 p.m. April 21 and at noon and 3 p.m. April 26. Advance tickets are $7 and tickets at the door are $10. The event includes two games of bowling, shoe rental and a slice of pizza and a soda. All proceeds go directly to Tyler. There will also be a silent auction held during the event. Items include gift certificates to Tops Diner, Dunzy’s Restaurant, Ferrari’s Restaurant, 4 Corners Pizza, Mallozzi’s, Stewart’s, Price Chopper and others. SCHENECTADY — Shoot for the Cure, a fundraiser to fight breast cancer, takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 at the Iroquois Rod & Gun Club, 590 Feuz Road, Schenectady. New York state Assemblyman George Amedore of Rotterdam co-hosts the event.
Food, refreshments and prizes will be available. All proceeds support the Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer (CRAAB).

BMX OPEN HOUSE ROTTERDAM — Tri-City BMX, 150 Burdeck St., will hold an Open House from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday . The Open House will feature free practice for the day along with riding instructions from experienced national riders. Many family activities are planned, including a bouncybounce for the younger children. There will be a pancake breakfast as well as a concession stand serving food and drink. Tri-City BMX, also known as the “Clay Monster,” is one of the fastest tracks in the country and has hosted many national events. Some of the country’s top riders from national teams, Stylin BMX, Rennen Intense, Factory Felt, BMX Underground and Shane Wolf BMX will be on hand displaying their BMX skills as well as working with the newer riders. Practice for the Open House will be free. Friday Night Racing, local race fees are $8 for points only and $10 for points and trophy and Tuesday Night open practice is $5. DWI, traffic safety focus of event ROTTERDAM — A STOP-DWI and Traffic Safety Awareness Day will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Rotterdam Square Mall. The Schenectady County STOPDWI and Traffic Safety programs are sponsoring the free event. Representatives from several police agencies, the Sheriff’s Department and state police will discuss traffic safety, including bicycle and pedestrian safety; child car seats, aggressive and distracted driving, occupant restraints and impaired driving. In addition, the Safe Child ID will be available for children.

ELKS CAR SHOW ROTTERDAM — Rotterdam Elks Lodge 2157 will hold its 13th annual car, truck and sport compact show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the “old,” location, Old K-mart Plaza, Curry Road, Route 7. Proceeds will benefit cerebral palsy. Trophies will be given to the top 40 cars, top three trucks, top three sport compacts and three Spectator Choice awards from all entries, plus other awards.
