Quoted from Rene: I was thinking about my last post. One time, during my first campaign for a Town Board seat the local Republican Club was holding a ziti dinner fundraiser. A "young man" and his dad came in for dinner and to my total surprise wrote me a check for my campaign. That young man was Brad Littlefield. I will never forget it because it made me feel great that someone supported me. Not that the amount was inconsequential, but it was not enough to be beholden to them and Brad will attest that in the eight years since we probably only had three or four more conversations until the sex offender issue came up.
Thank you Rene for calling me a "young man". It must have been many years ago. To be fair, the amount WAS inconsequential. No return of favors nor influence was expected. And, as you stated, we didn't converse much after that time until June of this year when you rallied residents to oppose the sex offender residency laws passed by the County Legislators. I donate, as finances permit, to many causes including political campaigns. I don't expect any personal favors to be returned. I only expect from those who I support that they will act responsibly in representing the interests of their constituents. By my account, you have done so. |
