The McDonald family that in October purchased the "old" Van Dyck jazz club and restaurant in Schenectady for $252,000 today purchased its brewing equipment for $70,000.
$250,000.00 - 70,000.00 ---------------------- $180,000 loss to taxpayers
Beyond his role with the Legislature, Jeff is member of the City of Schenectady Industrial Development Agency board. In this role, he has worked to help create a better atmosphere for businesses in Schenectady.
Jeff is committed to "revitalization" while reducing the burden on the taxpayers? HUH? Where did this baloney come from?
Jeff voted to increase County property taxes over 10% in a recession. He offered absolutely no cuts or savings. He represents the poorest areas of the City and should start acting like it. Despite the Gazetto barney, the last thing they need is competition with themselves. Another taxpayer ripoff-has Ray resigned YET?
Van Dyck brewing equipment nets $70,000 November 17, 2008 at 1:25 pm by Chris Churchill, Business writer
The family that in October purchased the shuttered Van Dyck jazz club and restaurant in Schenectady for $252,000 today purchased its brewing equipment for $70,000.
The McDonald family — Jack, Dennis, Billy and Jeff — own The Stockade Inn, which includes a restaurant and bar and is a short distance from the Van Dyck, and Pinhead Susan’s, a bar and restaurant on Broadway. And they have said they want to reopen the Van Dyck as a restaurant early next year.
The legendary Union Street restaurant and club, visited by numerous jazz luminaries, closed 18 months ago when owner N. Peter Olsen ran into financial trouble and eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Two auctions were scheduled to clear some of Olsen’s remaining debts to Berkshire Bank and Metroplex, the economic development agency in Schenectady County...........http://blogs.timesunion.com/business/?p=5328

The new owners of the landmark Van Dyck restaurant in Schenectady are on target for an early June opening as interior renovations move forward, said Jeff McDonald, whose family purchased the restaurant in October.
The restaurant and musical entertainment venue will open first. The McDonalds expect to open the Van Dyck's microbrewery by late summer, when all licensing is completed.
Renovations are well under way, according to the family, and include new mosaic tile flooring, new exterior awning, expanded entertainment seating, bathrooms with mahogany partitions and granite countertops, custom window treatments, a glass tile wall display, new patio pavers, landscaping, interior and exterior furniture, kitchen upgrades, roof replacement, and carpeting.
The McDonalds plan to serve both lunch and dinner, and food and drinks will be served three nights a week in the second-floor, 100-seat entertainment area. Along with the Van Dyck's traditional jazz, the restaurant also will feature rock, blues and comedy performances.

SCHENECTADY Van Dyck ready to make its debut BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
After undergoing more than $500,000 in renovatons, a jazzed up Van Dyck will debut Sunday with a performance by jazz steel drummer Othello Molineaux and Latin percussionist Manolo Badrena. The landmark jazz club and restaurant will then close for a week for further work. It will reopen June 29 to offer lunches Monday through Friday and dinners Monday through Saturday. Entertainment will be offered Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It will feature a mix of local and national musical acts, ranging from rock to jazz, as well as comedy. The Web site to purchase tickets for Sunday’s performance and see upcoming shows is Vandycklounge.com. “It is going to be a comfortable atmosphere for a lot of different people,” said Jeffrey McDonald, who will manage the facility with several cousins. The McDonald family, which owns other restaurants in Schenectady, purchased the Van Dyck at auction in October for $252,000, repaying $147,000 in back taxes and spending $70,000 to buy the Van Dyck’s microbrewing equipment. The prior owner, N. Peter Olsen, had defaulted on around $525,000 in loans from Berkshire Bank and the Metroplex Develop-............>>>>............................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....4&Continuation=1
At the Table Van Dyck’s delicious food lives up to new suroundings BY CAROLINE LEE For The Sunday Gazette
SCHENECTADY — The Van Dyck has that new restaurant smell. While it’s been there for ages, the renovations that led to the June 2009 opening make the place look and smell new. I hadn’t been there in years, and the restaurant has had its ups and downs since. It’s now under competent new ownership, and it looks great and the food is wonderful. The outside is refined, as it was before, with the gracious, generous awning covering the slate stairway with its sturdy, freshly painted iron railings. The newly tiled foyer opens into the reception area, with the expansive bar area to the left. Mom and I were greeted as soon as we arrived and taken through the bar to a table near the fireplace in the main dining room. Here, the eye is drawn to the high third-story skylight and second-floor railing around the perimeter, then down to the carpeted dining area with wood tables that can be easily moved. I’m not sure how I feel about the giant palm tree, but I do like the French doors along the back wall that open onto a handsome patio that begs a return visit in the good weather. ......................................>>>>.......................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r04600&AppName=1
