I am never amazed anymore by the actions of our government, whether its county, state, or federal, but this is an outrage.  Seventeen million dollars for a pedestrian bridge duplicating the one that is already in place along Route 30.  This one ends in an empty field to boot!  Due to the imminent closure (due to septic issues) of the mobile home park, 53 families and elderly being thrown out on the street, I called our town engineer yet again to find out what kind of funding is available for sewer districts.  He told me there isn't really any.  This is just great, the state will spend this kind of money on a useless bridge and there is no funding for infrastructure projects.  I'm sure you Rotterdamians will agree with me on this one.  It is close to becoming a public safety issue in the hamlet of D'burg.

Isn't it nice that the government has money for a pedestrian bridge but absolutely no money for sewers ANYWHERE! And one would think that the government would rather invest in it's residence which would be a bit of a tax base as opposed to a bridge that will obviously be a life long additional cost to the taxpayers. All they seem to spend our tax dollars on are bridges, convention centers and parks! Oh yeah and one block of state street in schenectady! DIMWITS!!

This state is out of control with how it wastes the taxpayers money and never seems to put the money to good use where it's really needed like infrastructure for towns that can't afford to improve their infrastructure.

I continue to contend that the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority should be financing the installation of infrastructure (sewers, roads, bridges, rails, internet connectivity) in areas that contain commercially zoned property as this infrastructure is required to support business.  Rather than the redistribution of public revenues to private business owners in the form of grants and no interest loans, the Metroplex should be investing the tax revenues to attract and promote the relocation of businesses to an area.  These public revenues should also be used to develop shovel ready sites.  Instead Gillen, the Metroplex Board of Directors and the Schenectady County Legislature continue to "gift" millions of dollars to support the opening of bars and restaurants, many of which go out of business within the first two years of operations.

I have requested from our elected "officials" information that compares the Metroplex disbursements to the local municipalities that are located in Schenectady County to the revenues that are received from each.

The area in which the trailer park is located is surrounded by properties that are zoned for commercial use.  I suggest that you speak w/ the Metroplex to request money to establish a sewer district in the hamlet of Duanesburg.  There are restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations and other types of business that are located in the hamlet.  All should be attached to a sewer system.

We worked toward obtaining funds for a sewer district in Duanesburg a few years ago, prior to Ray Gillen's chairmanship of Metroplex, John Manning earmarked $1,000,000 for sewers in Duanesburg. Providing the infratructure was within the Metroplex corridor and commercially zoned.  I have spoken with Ray Gillen on this subject and I was left with the impression that if the sewer district was to become a reality they would honor that figure.  The only problem is that figure is not nearly enough to make the cost affordable for residents that would live in the district.  As of that time the cost would have been roughly $1,800 per household.  I'm certain that amount has risen since then.  We receive the bulk of our funding from USDA and they have had very little available funds since 9/11 when it was diverted to Homeland Security.  My beef here is not with Metroplex, it is indeed with our State and Federal government.

Any thought to reapproaching the Metroplex with a request to share more of the cost?  Seems like they
have lots of money.

Why the USDA? I just thought this was funny if it was meant as a play on words....

Maybe it's the U.S. District Attorney?

But yes, that does sound a little funny, a beef with the U.S.D.A...

Good luck w/ that Rene.  Unless there is a plan to open several bars in that stretch of road, I'm not sure that the Metroplex
would be interested.

Let's look at the political landscape. Is Duanesburg mainly dems, reps or conservs? CAUSE DEMS HOLD THE PURSE STRINGS! . So if a township is not a democratic majority.....forget a bout it!

Senders and Bk, I couldn't have come up with the USDA/beef remark if I had thought about it for a week.  Good catch, I ddn't even realize I wrote it.  I was about to die laughing when I read your posts.  USDA United States Department of Agriculture/Rural Development.  They fund infrastructure for rural areas.  If memory servies we received five million for Mariaville Sewer District in grants and 0% interest loans.   We would need more than that to accomplish a sewer district in the hamlet of Duanesburg.
