U.S. leaders serve themselves, not the people First published: Sunday, December 2, 2007 The recent White House threat to furlough 100,000 civilian workers if Congress does not give all of the funds it requests without any restrictions is the simple crime of extortion. The whole idea of government officials serving the needs and desires of the people has turned into a power game of personal interests and personal welfare.. Instead of government officials serving the people, it is the people serving the government officials and the wealthy corporations that support them
This is a bitter revelation to an ignorant young high school boy who was drafted before graduating from high school and sent halfway across the world to put his life on the line for freedom and democracy in WWII.
The trickle-down policy may be acceptable for economic interests, but it is completely intolerable in terms of freedom and democracy.
When the government, including Congress, can force the country to continue to pursue a disputed course of action that is unconstitutional and opposed by more than 70 percent of the people, it cannot be called a democracy or claim to have freedom for its people. The U.S. has become as evil to many of its citizens as it has to the majority of the rest of the world.
