Taking a dim view of lighting

All that new development taking place on Schenectady's Proctors block is nice. It would be much nicer if there was more candle- power on the strip at night.

Months ago, an item here pointed out new streetlight poles were attractive. Unfortunately, the lumen output is second-class on a hoped-for first-class block.

Besides low intensity, some lights are white and others are a dull green. Making things worse, nine lights are now burned out.

Interestingly, the other night, Angelo Mazzone flagged me down. "Hey, those downtown lights are not bright," Mazzone said. "You can't even see my building."

He was referring to Angelo's Aperitivo Bistro & Wine Bar, a new venue that opened last weekend a few doors west of Proctors. It really doesn't matter that nothing was done after I mentioned lighting deficiencies.

However, Mazzone is a heavyweight restaurateur with other successful outlets in Albany and Scotia. When he points out a deficiency, it really does matter.

Not to mention a bunch of coumad's

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
