Voters spurn Jurczynski
Republican Al Jurczynski's attempted return to politics was a big bust. The former Schenectady mayor, seeking a County Legislature seat, was swamped by more than a 2-1 ratio.
His 1,306-vote total is believed to be one of the lowest in county history. Democrats Gary Hughes (3,650) and Jeff McDonald (3,261) were lopsided victors in the three-way race for two seats.
Jurczynski's political future was damaged during his mayoral administration when four city cops went to prison after an FBI corruption investigation. The city also had major financial problems including a bond rating that sunk to junk status.
"What I'd really like to know is how the 1,306 people justified voting for Jurczynski?" wisecracked a GOP leader, who asked to remain nameless.

Rene, I thought the same thing. Whether Jurczynski is justified or not, he clearly left a very bad taste in the mouths of most residents. I never thought he would win when he ran. Most people thought he was doing it for the state retirement as well. Again...justified or not, the people just remember 'bad times' when they hear the name Jurczynski. |

Well, there's not many GOP leaders in the county, so this should be easy to figure out. |
