you know I hear that Stevie Ego gave his brother free taxes and I am not sure it is true but that is why the fbi is in here. he made Johhny Macejka do that when he was threatening to fire him for doing his job. I cant say for sue it 100 % true but some people here might have better facts on this here and confirm it for us over here. so dont get mad at me for putting it here I am not trying to lie just put out what I heard from people I know who are in the know over at the bagel shop and at the pool shop.

New to the town and this board.  Can someone tell me what is the deal with the town assessor Gregg Surprise?  I have never met a more rude and obnoxious individual than this man.  He raised my assessment based on some bologna about sale price and missing data?  I have been told that he was appointed by the current administration over a more experienced and knowledeable assessor before him.  And his staff is rude and snotty.  Ugh!  I am having second thoughts on my purchase.  What happened to Rotterdam "A Nice Place to Live?"  Ugh!

I'll take rude yet competent, instead of polite and incompetent.  The last assessor lost my STAR application 2 years in a row.  And the second time I filled it out, I filled it out in the office and handed it to the clerk, and it STILL was never filed.

I think the last assessor believed he was entitiled that position regardless of performance, just because of his family name.  IMHO

Like I said before....assessors are not the most popular people in town. However, Macjecka was totally incompetent.

Totally incompetent?  Pretty strong words.  Might you be confused with John MacIsaac?  I knew him from Schenectady and he was totally incompetent and I could not believe Joey Signore hired him.  I think youu might be confused Bumblethru.

Again my friends at the Senior Center have spoken very highly of Mr Macejka and his son.  Sounds to me he got a raw deal but Gregg Surprise is not very nice at all.

Macjecka's assessor-ship was a walk in the park...BEFORE....the reval. All of a sudden the reval hits the town and he didn't have a clue. THAT IS WHY HE IS GONE!

Surprise may not be the best, time will tell, but in either case, majecka had to go!

ROTTERDAM

Company contests town’s claims
Appraisal fi rm says it was drawn into ‘political squabble’

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

GAR Associates has countered Rotterdam’s lawsuit against the company, demanding the town pay damages for a legal action prompted by a “local political squabble.”
The company filed legal papers this week calling the case unfounded and asking a Schenectady County Supreme Court judge to dispense with the action. Cindy Baire, the vice president of the Buffalo-based appraisal firm, said the Rotterdam’s assessor, supervisor and Town Board worked closely with her company during the revaluation and ultimately approved their work.
“Despite every effort on our part, we have been dragged into a local political squabble,” she said in a statement released Friday. “We now have no choice but to contest unfounded claims made against our firm, and we will do so vigorously.”
GAR is also seeking unspecifi ed damages from the town, as well as compensation for the legal fees it incurs.
Paul Goldman, a private attorney representing the town, said he hadn’t received GAR’s motion to dismiss the case and couldn’t comment on its substance. However, he was confident the town’s claim against GAR is strong.
“There’s merit to the claim,” he said Friday. “And we’ll vigorously defend it.”
Rotterdam finally filed a lawsuit against GAR in June, seeking up to $1 million in damages. The lawsuit accuses the appraisal fi rm of breaching its contract, negligence, misrepresentation, malpractice and failing to take remedial action following the town’s first full reassessment in decades.
The document filed by GAR reaffirms many of the same claims the company made when confronted by the town’s lawsuit. Among their claims, the company maintains the deficiencies in the reassessment project were resulting from the town failing fulfill its obligations under the contract.
Specifically, GAR claims the data entry errors forming the basis of Rotterdam’s legal action resulted from the town’s failure to provide the necessary support staff promised under the contract. The company also alleges the town’s qualms with GAR stem from changes fomented by Rotterdam’s shifting political climate, including a turnover of the Town Board makeup and supervisor midway through the revaluation.
The Town Board narrowly opted to fund the $752,000 revaluation project in 2005. Then-Supervisor John Paolino, a Democrat, was a proponent of the project and received bi-partisan support during the board’s vote. .....................>>>>....................>>>>.............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01300&AppName=1
