Voters can demand a better government

First published: Saturday, October 27, 2007

We hear every day about the petty bickering of our elected state officials.
I propose to anyone who really wants a better state government to do as I will do this election year and every year to come until priorities change. I will vote against every incumbent regardless of political party. If Bozo the Clown runs against the incumbent in my district, I'll take Bozo in a heart beat. At least he has his own car.

If the incumbent is really that good, then he or she can run again in the next election and I will vote them back in then. In one day we can instantaneously take a giant step in cleaning up Albany.

Politicians lucky enough not to be up for re-election will realize that we are their employer and we deem their collective performance as unsatisfactory. Junior members may even take the opportunity to vote their conscience instead of crumbling to the wishes of the senior legislators. It will be crystal clear to all of them that we really care and they had better care too about the real issues we face.

All we need now is a catchy slogan. Maybe "Incumbentgate" or "Operation Clean Sweep." I ask for your anti-vote this November. Go Bozo.

Yea

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I say Pay attention to the candidates and what they stand for.  Make an informed decision, not a blind, mindless one.

That's a good thing. They are blessed to have an involved and informed supervisor(is that what your title is?). I hope they keep it up and stay informed. Like you all were talking about folks going to the legislature meetings to show them--yes, you are being watched and yes, we do vote......and sometimes the best thing a servant leader can do is just 'wake up' the masses.....

Keep it up Rene....

While the above comment is nice and I appreciate it, it makes no difference what kind of a job an elected official is doing if we use your method of voting. I would have been voted out two years ago and D'burg could have been left with no one to advocate for them against the sex offender law and many other things I have worked hard to accomplish.  There are many great elected officials and I stand by my opinion of making an informed decision, not a lazy one.

I think the 'burden of proof' should be on the incumbant......it makes folks HAVE to pay attention.....you know how sheeple hate change.....it would keep a forward momentum in all elections.....not just a 'ho-hum, I grew up with so and so, I guess they are good'.........you do a good job and stimulation of your constituency is paramount......no matter which party.....

"Operation Clean Sweep", proposed by Mr. Douglas, is the approach of those who are disgruntled with the current state of affairs but who are unwilling to exercise due diligence to "sort the wheat from the chaff".  Mr. Douglas should do a little research to identify which incumbants are serving him well and which are not.

You want to see what happens when people go and vote against the incumbents because they disagree with what the majority of a group is doing?  Look at the 2006 Congressional / House electlons.  Not exactly the best things happening in D.C. nowadays, huh?

Each must be tested according to his/her own works.
