County Republicans languish in disarray

By MARV CERMAK
First published: Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Buchanan was re-elected Schenectady County Republican chairman without any opposition, but then again why would anyone in their right mind want the job?

He is trying to rebuild a party that has fallen into grave disrepair because old-guard power brokers kept young people out of the tent.

Things are so bad for the GOP in the city of Schenectady that the party was able to come up with only three candidates to run for nine ballot spots in the November election. In glaring contrast, Democrats filled all nine slots.

There are four City Council seats at stake. Democrats have four candidates ready to go while their lone foe on the GOP line is Conservative Richard DiCaprio, a retired cop.

Nobody believes the GOP couldn't find a single council candidate of their own political faith. It's the first time in my half-century of news coverage that I recall even one vacancy on the council ballot.

Democrats have candidates for four city seats on the County Legislature. Republicans came up with just one -- Al Jurczynski, a career politician.

In the mayoral race, Democrat incumbent Brian U. Stratton is challenged by Mike Cuevas, ex-Republican city chairman. The GOP couldn't find a candidate so Cuevas is running to give voters choice.

Incidentally, Cuevas ended his city chairmanship because of the mayoral run. Mike Brockbank, a former city corporation counsel, is interim chairman.

Funny...I know a ton of people, including reps, that think Buchanan needs to GO! And there are some biting at the bit to fill the seat. So I don't know where he got his information from. Buchanan is  a major problem if not THE problem with the GOP.

That says it all right there.  Tedisco and Farley could care less about the county/district or the Republican party.  They proved that when they went against the County Republicans position of waiting for the state audit results before deciding on whether or not to increase the Metorplex cap.  They just want to assure themselves re-election, so they can keep their seats and continue to collect a check to do nothing.  Amedore just follows their lead, if he wins re-election, my suggestion would be take the reigns of the Republican Party and take it into a new direction, away from the "old guard" politicians.  This sitting and waiting for the Party's time to come to power is stupid.

He made the information up. Ask the Conservatives what it's like working with him? You'll get an earful.

It does't really matter anymore what the conserv's think. So, I wouldn't use them as a litmus on this subject.

The only thing that will rebuild the horrible County GOP is new committeeman, locked and loaded. Of course, they have discourage new blood for years. Big mistake for the old guard. The answer is not switching parties but taking back the party. Under Conservative principles; Pro-life, smaller government, successful business people, tax slashers. Change is coming to Schenectady County from the bottom up.

there is no re - building what dont you stunods understand over there. If the government allows this outlaw group of traitors to keep it up {which it should not } then you people will never be a majority the way you have all acted with the hate and the outlaw stuff going against the police, the troops, god and the country. I think the days where you can come here and speaw the hatred out on the little people and that are coming to the close. That Bush ruined the country and there needs to be some kind of police law to strraighten the ecnomy out now and it wont be to easy after all over here. These things here like the blog are very unfair with no balance and if the repubs keep it up lawsuits and arrests will need to happen to keep the country from sliding down the tubes altogether. What dont you all get about how we are in danger from the repubs and the treaitors they are?
