It is rumored that a Flying J Truck Stop is going to be proposed near I88 and Duanesburg Road. They are a huge truck plaza with resturants and mechanics on staff. Rumor or Fact?

Rumor or Fact? The Golub Corporation(Price Chopper) is going to move it's office complex down town?

Considering they just built on not too long ago, I'd probably put that as rumor, but I wouldn't put it past the Democrat-plex.

The Flying J Truck Shop could be a reality in the  near future. We live by the area and were approached about selling our property to potential developers. They showed us an arial view of the area that the developer was looking at. Flying J Truck Shop was the only business actuallylisted on this map. It was listed on Mr. Crounse's land right by I88.

I am not an expert on the specifics, and although it seems to be an ideal location, I am wondering if the sounds of hundred of tractor trailers idoling 24/7 and if the smell of diesel fuel will travel to the residential areas of Eldorado Acres.

It may not be an issue but possibly a concern in the future.

Let's apply the 2000' rule here.....I'm not saying truckers are 'predators' or 'offenders' but there is such a thing as drifters/shoppers etc........there is a school across the street.....and a 'nice development'

and yes, the website makes the place look all nice and shiny and staffed but,,,,, so does walmart......

To be honest, I've never been to one of these Flying J Truckstops, but I guess I've been to my share of different stops.  If you look at some of them, they're usually rather well taken care of.  I'd say if the residents of Eldorado Acres are so concerned with something coming into their backyards, they should see what they can do about it.  Two choices I could see them having right away is getting together and going to town hall to voice their concern about it, or contacting the company that is possibly coming in.  At the same time, they need to realize that there's not many other areas of town that would be so fit for such a thing and they know that for some time there have been studies going on around ALL the Thruway exits in town.  While Exit 25 is the one that you see the most traffic built up at each morning / evening, that's because it hasn't been expanded to the point that it can logically handle the amount of commuter traffic that comes and goes everyday without the hassle.  These are not issues at 25A, which would lean towards doing something there, as well as the fact that it is the meeting of 2 different highways and a free exit off for many trucks (I believe they also get the "free ride" on the Thruway between 25A and 24, as it's considered part of the freeway, even still considered part of I-88 or the beginning of "Freebie-90."

Also, the people over at Eldorado Acres didn't say much about Chavez / Citgo going in right outside their neighborhood and I don't see this being even as much of an impact as that is.  Plus, if they want to have some fresher air and reduce noise, maybe they should stop selling off the land in there and building so many more houses, taking out all the trees that would not only be a sound buffer, but also help freshen the air and soak up much of the runoff rainwater that they'll be complaining about in the future, since there's nothing over there to drink up all that water.  

It's a perfect place to expand the tax base and lower the per capita tax rate for the town.

I'm sure the county and the Proctors-Plex would be more than happy to take some more of the money.

The Flying J's that I've seen while traveling around in my RV have been pretty decent looking and provide all kinds of services for both trucks and cars. They also have a decent price on gas but I don't remember where they get their gas from.

I need to correct my previous quote. I did not know, but just found out that in NYS, the environmental laws prohibit tractor trailers from idoling. So that would not be of any concern. Sorry, I guess I should have checked further.

The trucks can't idol, but the reefer units(refrigerated) will run continuous.....Especially in the summer.  They run on diesel fuel also.

Well, to dispel the rumor, I spoke to John Mertz tonight.  He said that there is no way that they are going to bring in Flying J to the farm.  He said that they are in fact looking for a much bigger businesss to come there and it wouldn't be economically feasible to put it there, as so much more income can be brought to the town if somethig else is brought in there.

Well it appears that Mr. Mertz could be wrong here. I was told that the Crounse farm by I88 and the house next to it were sold this past week and that a Flying J was planning to land there.
