One of the older landmarks in Schenectady will come tumbling down soon when the former White Tower at State and Nott Terrace is demolished. The White Tower was the hamburger king before McDonald's came along.
I recall more than a half-century ago, when business was booming at two local White Towers -- a second shop on Erie Boulevard was razed decades ago.
Anyway, the State-Nott Terrace site will become A Taste of China Restaurant. Dun Fei Zheng of Brooklyn said he hoped the new building would be ready in late November, but he conceded major rebuilding could take a month or so longer.
Zheng said he and two partners already own two Taste of China Restaurants in Brooklyn. They searched the Capital Region for months before deciding the Schenectady location was best, partially because there is no downtown Chinese eatery.
