Just curious.  Is there a limit, per household, to how many dogs and/or cats and/or ferrets a household may have?  I'm not talking a breeder,  but just pets.  I can't find anyting on the website

I heard 3. Then after 3 you need to apply for a breeders licience.

However, I use to live in another area of Rotterdam where my neighbors had 4 pitbulls. Which I knew for a fact that they were fighting them. I contacted Rotterdam's animal control guy and at that time was told the limit was 3. So, when I explained my concerns regarding the dogs and the fact that I had children which alarmed me even more....the warden did 'nothing'. Come to find out, the animal control guy was a friend of the people who had the pitbulls. This was quite a few years ago.

you may want to try the NYS Dept of Agriculture and Markets...they are the ones that send out dog license renewals.  Not sure if they have their own website.  I have 3 dogs and they mail me the dog license renewal forms every year, to take to the town and pay.  And pay and pay haha.

I have had dogs all of my life and I have never ever had them licienced! My feeling....there is a leash law now. My dog is always on my property either fenced or on a run. And after my experience with the animal control guy and the pit bulls....I take it as none of their business.

Well, truth be told, last yr I did not pay for the licenses.  I may do it this year.  I thought about it...and it is a good way of keeping track of who has had their pet innoculated, rabies shots and stuff like that.  And if you run into a problem with a neighbors dog or have to call animal control, it is probably better if you can complain when your own animals are licensed.  I hate paying the $8.50 per animal, but,  I am beginning to believe it is a necessary evil.  My dogs are all small, less than 20lbs and they cant stand to be outside, I have a fenced in yard and they don't even like going out in it, so it does seem like a waste, but, if I ever want to complain about a neighborhood dog I(which I should because of all these people who go to work and leave the poor things outside all day to cry and bark) I want to have all my ducks in a row.

well I checked nys dept of ag/mkts and nothing is said about the max number of pets you canhave.  But I did find this which I think is interesting:
Distribution of Dog License Monies
Any local fees collected are kept by the licensing municipality for dog control services and enforcement of Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets law in addition to their portion of the statutory fee. The statutory fee is apportioned as follows:

53% is retained by the licensing municipality for dog control and enforcement of Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets law.

30% is sent to the county to reimburse livestock animal owners for dog damage claims. Any unused money is returned to the licensing municipalities annually.

17% is forwarded to the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets to provide all dog license forms and identification tags, send renewal applications and maintain the centralized database of dog licenses.

from the State’s 17% share, a 10 cent fee for each license issued is remitted to Cornell Veterinary College for dog disease studies.

All other fees, such as impoundment fees and fines and/or penalties for violations are retained by the collecting municipality

107-4. General restrictions. A. Limitation on number. (1) Not more than three dogs, six months or more in age, shall be harbored on any premises. Notwithstanding the foregoing restriction, a special permit may be granted by the Town Board to a licensed veterinarian or veterinary hospital or any incorporated society for the prevention of cruelty to animals or similar incorporated dog preventive association to allow the harboring of more than three dogs, provided that each dog harbored shall be six months or more in age. Such special permit may be granted in such instances and upon such terms and conditions as the Town Board shall determine. No such special permit shall be granted to allow the harboring of more than three dogs six months or more in age on premises in an R-1 Residential District, R-2 Residential District and an R-3 Multiple-Family Dwellings and Apartment House District. It shall be further illegal, regardless of whether the license is purebred or kennel, to harbor more than three dogs over six months of age in an R-1 Residential, R-2 Residential or R-3 Multiple-Family Dwellings and Apartment House District. Editor's Note: Pursuant to L.L. No. 6-1988, the R-3 Multiple-Family Dwellings and Apartment House District is now the R-3 Multiple-Family Residential District.

I never licienced my dogs but they always had their rabbies shots with the tag from the vet's for proof. The money was never the issue....I just thought it was one of those stupid laws.

And as you, my dogs were family dogs and just wanted to be where ever we were. If we are inside, well then so  was the dog. And same with being outside. When we slept or ate, the dog slept or ate. Honestly, just like an extended family member.
