Again, you prove you are too immature and ignorant to actually carry on a discussion.  Grow up.

Again, YOU prove you are too immature and ignorant to actually carry on a discussion.  Grow up.   WHO refuses to carry on a discussion????   There are EXISTING PRIVATE nursing homes in the county that take the indigent.   Since neither health insurance nor medicare provides coverage beyond a couple months for nursing home, and since Schenectady Co taxpayers pay almost the highest taxes in the whole country, the people do not have millions in savings, yet the PRIVATE nursing homes have PLENTY of patients.  They ALL take medicaid!

So, since the PRIVATE nursing homes ALL take medicaid, please engage in a discussion, DV, why should the taxpayers of Schenectady have their taxes raised even more to have a government nursing home which will cost us far far higher out of our pockets than the private nursing homes.
Can you discuss why increasing taxes on the homeowners, which then causes property values to fall which causes the TAXABLE tax base to plummet which causes taxes to increase more, etc. etc why is that a good thing for the homeowners and residents?

By the way, why is Schenectady the slowest county around to process applications for people who are trying to get into nursing homes?  Is it due to the fact that they're trying to fend off the inevitable?  Or do they quicken it if you want to go to the County nursing home?

As a county resident and taxpayer I am THRILLED that there will an affordable, safe haven for our frail seniors who NEED that service.

Affordable for THEM, not those who have to pay for it.  (By the way, there already is an affordable, safe haven they could go to, The Avenue.)

Please explain how it is affordable?

Private  nursing homes are paid the same as a government home would for the patient's stay.   As I stated, health insurnace and medicare pay very limited nursing home costs.   Actually, I would bet you that there are no health insurance plans around that will cover nursing homes, I may be wrong; if they do it would be maybe only a few weeks, but if you think private health insurance will cover, then I challenge you to provide links to the plans that do, with their benefit summaries and the premium cost.

Now, since medicare is mandatory for all over 65, then you should be educated in the fact that whether a private or a government nursing home, the coverage is the same.

Since it is a well known fact that it will cost taxpayers TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars for the building of the nursing home, and then MILIONS of dollars for staff, lavish time off, health coverage, and pensions, then, tell us HOW you can claim that a government nursing home will be affordable?

Tell us how affordable a government nursing home is when taxes go up because of it and property values plummet because of increasing taxes.

Well??????

You don't answer questions, do you, because you have no explanation, you have no evidence.   Glry is a town planning board member who is NOT a taxpayer

Let us take a senior citizen living on $1100 Social Security check every month who pays the cities high property tax and now has to go into the new nursing home that will cost a minimum of $9000 a month and only has a small savings account. If the nursing home accepts all the seniors who are in this situation with that amount of cash the nursing home will go bankrupt.

In this case, the truth is the nursing home will get whatever payment they can from Medicaid, along with the full amount minus a small stipend from their Social Security.

SCHENECTADY — Now that work is under way on the new $43.5 million Glendale Nursing home, the county is following through on its promise to diversify the workforce by holding a career fair Wednesday for apprentices, according to county officials.

"This career fair represents a tremendous opportunity to network with and speak directly to prospective employers in order to improve your chances to finding a job within the building trades," said Miriam Cajuste, affirmative action manager for the county and city.

She urged prospective apprentices to come to the Building Trades Apprenticeship Career Fair with extra resumes because there will representatives from organizations representing carpenters, bricklayers, laborers, operators, tapers, glaziers, painters, plumbers and sprinkler fitters, electricians, ironworkers and sheet metal workers.......................>>>>.................>>>>................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....38.php#ixzz20DDJC2pg

And they will all be required to 'join a union'!!! That is really what is the motivation here!!
It garners more money for the unions and secures votes for the 'machine'!!

Great! Quality of workmanship and cost effectiveness is out the window.  Diverisy of the workforce is the most important thing when spending the taxpayer money.  And we thought Martin Luther King didn't want to be judged by the color of his skin.

and of course, were this activity not taking place, YOU would then be complaining that the construction hiring practice was prejudicial and homophobic, being managed under dictotorial direction and not democratic processes, not affording equal employment.........am I close?
