My next door neighbor had to put his wife in the Glendale Nursing Home and did have health insurance but was getting a bill for $9,000 each and every month until all the money he had saved was gone. After his savings ran out they just took her life insurance policy and SS payment each month. To get long term care insurance that will cover nursing home costs you had better be able to come up with about $ 4,000 per month as you reach Medicare age.
All nursing homes do the same.....private or public. If ya got the bucks, they expect you to pay. Seems fair...no? Why should the taxpayers pay if the folks have the funds themselves.....yes?

It IS confirmed -- there IS a need and the Sparkling new, state of the art SKILLED nursing center is indeed --- MUCH called for! Senior citizens throughout the County can rejoice that the nayboobs were NOT allowed to throw them into the trash and prematurely send them to their graves without a safety net.
Oh, so what you are saying is there are no skilled nursing homes anywhere in a reasonable distance, right? I guess you don't know about one of the most highly rated SKILLED nursing home which is a PRIVATE nursing home which DOES INDEED take patients on medicaid AND saves the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
I'm not saying that every nursing home---whether skilled nursing home or health related is great, but HOW can you claim that the senior citizens would be "thrown out in the trash" when actually they CAN be placed highly rated PRIVATE nursing homes such as Baptist.
That's right Glry aka DV,. just keep making a comment, like above, but then you REFUSE to engage in a DISCUSSION about the far far higher cost of a county home on the taxpayers when there are enough private nursing homes which provide far better care at a lower cost.l
that's right Gkry aka DV, just make a comment, like above, but then be sure to REFUSE to engage in DISCUSSION of the ramifications on the homeowners of having to pay ever increasing taxes to pay for a money losing county home, and when taxes increase, the home values go down which causes all kinds of other problems.
Just like downtown----through well over $100 million dollars of taxpayer money on downtown -- tell us how that has helped the city improve? Has spending all that money on downtown resulted in people seeing the value of their homes appreciate? Has the money spent on downtown resulted in an increase in the TAXABLE tax base in the ctiy???? Huh????? Have homeowners in the city seen tax relief as a result of downtown? With all the spending on downtown, what effect has it had on the crime rate in the county? Huh? Yes Glry aka DV, tell us about the return on the "investment" in downtown. What has been the return? Are people flocking to buy homes IN the city? Huh????? Is downtown helping the city so much that it has resulted in oh so much revenue that homeowners are seeing tax decreases every year? Huh?
That's right, you can't answer those questions.
Please explain how paying for a nursing home at a much higher cost than the private nursing homes will be beneficial to the tax base in the and beneficial to the property values. Come on, try answering the questions.

Just wondering, where can we get the specs on what the nursing home will offer the residents, what types of rooms, what types of serviecs, what will the costs be to the families?

All of this info should be readily available on line including who were awarded the bids.

But of course, it is NOT
However, Glendale's website DOES have photos from the "holiday" parade float ya know.

And at what point will the quoted under budget costs turn into a closer amount of the quoted initial cost. This manuver was a ploy to allow for more PR acceptance of the plan when the cost issues were initially raised. We will see in the FINAL cost numbers. At any rate keep the projects a comin (Union based ones) Glendale Home, Tappan Zee Bridge replacement (in the billions) and the much needed (?) roundabouts. The membership do get out the vote.
The news report that I caught on the radio was that the county (dems) were saying they will increase the rates for "private pay" patients.
Can ANYONE tell us WHO in Schenectady Co has the financial ability to pay out of their own pockets for nursing hone? WHO has so much money in the bank that they can pay $200,000 (or more) PER YEAR of a nursing home state AND the spouse can still support him/herself (taxes or rent, food, their own medical, utility bills, car payments, various insurances, home maintenance, gas, personal needs, etc). WHO in the county has that kind of money?
These dems are TOTAL FOOLS.
About 99.9% of private health insurance does NOT, and I repeat does NOT pay nursing home costs once a person is on medicare -- AT ALL!!!!!!! That is an UNDISPUTABLE UNDENIABLE FACT!
What ever insurance plans do cover nursing homes, they will NOT increase their payments to nursing homes simply because the nursing home decides in their budget to "increase the private pay amount." Virtually EVERY insurance plan out there, for ANYTHING, has a limit to what they will pay. Anyone with a brain knows dang will that insurance companies do NOT pay a doctor whatever the doctor charges. There is a set amount for whatever procedure. MOST insurnace plans today use a participating doctor idea. And if they don't they will pay a percentage of what the insurance company things the cost should be. Hospitals too. Insurance plans set the rate and they may need to be approved by the state insurance or state health dept as well (or that office of financial services as it's called today)
oh....there are quite a few folk that can private pay...however they are also the one's that dont go to Ellis hospital....they go to Albany med/st petes or saratoga.... SCCC provides the very very very very very cheap labor for them.....
we shall reap what we sow....money in the bank certainly DOES NOT PURCHASE FRIENDS especially in old age......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

As a concerned citizen who pays property taxes and other taxes, I am glad to see that ground has been broken and construction begun on the long awaited new county nursing home.

As always, the BIG BIG (in more ways than one) LIAR. You do NOT pay property taxes, there is NOT a property tax bill with your name on it, not even as a life estate! You don't even know the difference between a tax bill vs rate vs levy and have proved that FACT over and over by virtue of the comments you make. And you known darn well that the comments you have posted are also proof of your lack of owning or ever owning property.
The ONLY reason you cheer for all these taxpayer funded projects is because you are a failure at being a taxpayer, no job, your unemployment has run out, you obviously even reached the max time on welfare. And now must rely on family to support you

Again, you prove you are too immature and ignorant to actually carry on a discussion. Grow up.

One might say that it isn't immature or ignorant. I actually do not think you should be on any part of any discussion that includes improving anything since you obviously cant even take care of yourself. You dont own any realestate in Schenectady and you are of mess as far as health is concerned. Take care of yourself before you try yo take care of others....not real ignorant of a concept.
