Our soon-to-be state of the art brand new nursing home is moving along nicely -- and Union labor agreements have saved the taxpayers millions of dollars! Three cheers for our wonderful County Legislature!

Then why are we going to be robbed millions of dollars to pay for a nursing home when there are EXISTING PRIVATE nursing homes that can provide the SAME service FOR LESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, you won't answer the question

GLENVILLE
Glendale major work begins
Clearing, road move will allow construction of $44M nursing site

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

After more than a decade of debate and deliberation, unmistakeable signs of Schenectady County’s new 200-bed nursing home are appearing along Hetcheltown Road.
Contractors have already constructed the base for a 1,450-foot section of Hetcheltown Road that will soon be bent around the existing Glendale Nursing Home property to make way for the new facility’s foundation. The stately pines that once shaded the stretch of road and the front green of the nursing home have been removed.
Starting Monday, the county will close a section of Hetcheltown between Pashley Road and Glenridge Road to all vehicles except emergency responders and local traffi c. The two-day closure will last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and allow county road crews to complete the relocation.
By shifting Hetcheltown Road, the county will be able to preserve 15 acres as parkland. Many area residents balked at the project when initial plans included the property they now use for recreation as the site for the new facility.
County Attorney Chris Gardner said the ceremonial ground breaking won’t occur for another two weeks. But crews will continue to prepare the site. “Preliminary work is already going to be starting prior to that,” he said Tuesday.
Once the new spur of Hetcheltown Road is opened, workers will begin excavating the old road surface. The vacant former home of longtime Glendale Administrator John McGrath will also be demolished as workers begin to excavate for the new facility’s foundation.
Gardner said the project is expected to take about 18 months. He and other county leaders estimate that the cost of construction and demolition of the outmoded Glendale home will be $34 million, about $6 million less than they originally anticipated. Other elements including design and road work push the total public cost toward $44 million
“Six million under budget and on schedule,” he quipped. “It’s all moving forward.”
‘NOT DONE IN A VACUUM’
The county Legislature authorized bonding of up to $50.5 million for the project, with roughly 85 percent of the cost of construction expected to be recouped through enhanced Medicaid reimbursement. The facility will be composed of five so-called neighborhoods, with each containing branches from a central core.
The new facility will replace the existing patchwork of buildings, some dating back to the 1930s. The home once contained 500 beds, but was downsized in recent years and now has entire wings that are vacant.
Glendale Subcommittee Chairman Brian Gordon, D-Niskayuna, was pleased to see the project finally coming to fruition. The secondterm legislator said he’s devoted much of the past six years into advocating for a project that he considers a vital need for the community. .....................................>>>>........................>>>>......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00900&AppName=1

New nursing home is 'much called for'
Schenectady County breaks ground after years of debate, study

By Lauren Stanforth
Published 09:44 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2012

GLENVILLE — Helene Pitcher was one of about 20 Glendale Home residents who sat beneath the protective shade of pop-up tents Sunday to hear the welcome news.

In a year, the browning lawn that stretches wide in front of their facility will become their new home.

"I think this is very much called for," said the 90-year-old, who wore a string of pearls for a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday afternoon to kick-off construction of the $43.5 million county nursing home. The new facility will be built in front of the current Glendale Home, which will be demolished at project's end.

County legislators at the event repeatedly noted how long it has taken to get the project under way, saying the first discussion occurred in 2005 as the legislature voted 10 times on different aspects concerning the facility.

In 2006, the state's Berger commission on health care consolidation ruled the county had to provide a smaller nursing home and shutter the current facility that once housed 500 beds........................>>>>....................>>>>...............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....58.php#ixzz1ynnypkvV

The news report that I caught on the radio was that the county (dems) were saying they will increase the rates for "private pay" patients.

Can ANYONE tell us WHO in Schenectady Co has the financial ability to pay out of their own pockets for nursing hone?   WHO has so much money in the bank that they can pay $200,000 (or more) PER YEAR of a nursing home state AND the spouse can still support him/herself (taxes or rent, food, their own medical, utility bills, car payments, various insurances, home maintenance, gas, personal needs, etc).   WHO in the county has that kind of money?

These dems are TOTAL FOOLS.

About 99.9% of private health insurance does NOT, and I repeat does NOT pay nursing home costs once a person is on medicare -- AT ALL!!!!!!!   That is an UNDISPUTABLE UNDENIABLE FACT!

What ever insurance plans do cover nursing homes, they will NOT increase their payments to nursing homes simply because the nursing home decides in their budget to "increase the private pay amount."    Virtually EVERY insurance plan out there, for ANYTHING, has a limit to what they will pay.   Anyone with a brain knows dang will that insurance companies do NOT pay a doctor whatever the doctor charges.   There is a set amount for whatever procedure.   MOST insurnace plans today use a participating doctor idea.   And if they don't they will pay a percentage of what the insurance company things the cost should be.   Hospitals too.   Insurance plans set the rate and they may need to be approved by the state insurance or state health dept as well (or that office of financial services as it's called today)

MikeChristine,
Just as a correction, when they're speaking about the private pay patients, they're speaking about any patients who don't have insurance, or who do not have Medicaid as a final insurance.

My next door neighbor had to put his wife in the Glendale Nursing Home and did have health insurance but was getting a bill for $9,000 each and every month until all the money he had saved was gone. After his savings ran out they just took her life insurance policy and SS payment each month. To get long term care insurance that will cover nursing home costs you had better be able to come up with  about $ 4,000 per month as you reach Medicare age.

Actually, that's what I was geting at when I asked WHO has the savings to pay $20,000 a month for a nursing home?

But had ot throw in the fact about health insurance which rarely will provide any nursing home coverage, if they do have it, it could be a short term, secondary to what medicare pays, and the nursing home---whether private or government -- will get paid an amount in accordance with the allowance determined by the insurance plan.

Now, when there is a spouse that is not in a nursing home, will the county allow the spouse enough income to be able to pay the almost the highest taxes in the country?   Just watch, more tax foreclosures, not just in the city but it will extend well into the county too.

There is a certain amount that the state sets that allows the spouse to keep.  There is a maximum of resources that a spouse is allowed to keep on hand, as well as a maximum amount that they are allowed to have as income.  Also, once on Medicaid, any income that a resident of a nursing home has MUST be turned over to the nursing home, with exception of a small "allowance" for "personal needs."

From what I understand, MC, I don't think that the first house owned by a couple counts as part of their resources, otherwise, here's a link to the guidelines.
