Ouch!!

Quite the DEM slap in the face. The 'working together works' slogan has become one of elitist thinking and it's being used to ignore the voice of the taxpayers and residents.

The taxpayers are tired of being treated like garbage, time to clean out the barn once and for all.

The working together idiots sent out another joke mailer that this won't cost taxpayers a penny. Millions-yes? Under their fuzzy math 85%=100%. A nonprofit is building a new home here with 40 more beds that costs $16 million LESS than these DEM fiscal incompetents. We can't afford another DEM taj mahal. The City garage and parking lot on Broadway are enough. The funniest is MVP owner Gary Hughes who said at the Chamber that it was against State law to privatize the County home. WTF? That's why Fulton, Montgomery and Saratoga have all done so. Hughes is running again because "he likes people"-lol. MVP Gary Hughes also likes free health benefits-no?

It is strikingly clear that IF building a new tax paid multi-million dollar nursing home were popular....it would be a campaign slogan for the candidates.

IT IS NOT EVER MENTIONED!
Why?
Because they would 'lose' votes!!
It's not popular and no body wants it.
They will wait until after the elections to pursue it further!

Working together to over estimate revenues, raid reserves and not budget for the County Home that received its $55 MILLION bonding two years ago! Only in Schenectady County.

Save open space behind Glendale Nursing Home

Re Ray Collar’s Oct. 27 letter: ‘Why won’t Sch’dy County Dems protect land near Glendale?’ It is my understanding that the new Glendale Home will be built in front of the old one, leaving the open space behind it untouched. Therefore, I am frustrated that our Democratic legislators have twice voted against preserving this land.
I have been a Scout leader in Burnt Hills for many years and have often utilized the property to teach map and compass and other Scouting skills. I hope it is not the intent of these legislators to sell this property out from under the residents of Schenectady County, especially after our community has been lobbying them for the past year and a half to protect it from development.
With all the new building and expansion in Glenville, it is critical that we save small pockets of open space in our communities for future generations to enjoy. It is a shame that some of our elected county officials do not understand this.

Sch’dy should learn nursing home lesson from Fulton County

I was pleased and fascinated by Michael Lamendola’s Jan. 14 article, [“Sale of county nursing home OK’d”] regarding the sale and transfer of the Fulton County Nursing Home to a private entity, effective Feb. 29.
I have written previous letters against the rebuilding of the Glendale Home because, contrary to the allegations of many county legislators, it would incur significant costs. I addressed the county Legislature 18 months ago, and was impolitely ignored with a lack of any response or discussion.
Also, note that Albany County is reconsidering Neil Breslin’s suggestion to transition the Ann Lee Home, on the basis of a sound analysis of economic realities. This type of proposal is gaining acceptance throughout the state.
The Fulton County Nursing Home had a budget of over $11 million, subsidized by outside grants, which terminated at the end of 2011. The county will receive $3.5 million from the sale of the home and avoid the exposure of further costs, which would certainly incur tax increases for this heavily burdened county.
Best of all, careful reading of the article reveals a clever transitional plan that will ensure uninterrupted and smooth operation of the home, as well as a sensible management plan to compensate employees who accept early retirement with allowance to be rehired by the new owner, and even remain with the Civil Service Employees Association by switching to a private-sector branch of the union. New ownership is predicted to be self-sustaining and potentially profitable in about three years.
The citizens, voters and taxpayers of Schenectady County should read this excellent article, because their county may undergo a similar loss of subsidies and incur $200 million or more in expenses over the next 20 years — which includes debt service on the building bond and covering Glendale Home’s annual deficit, now at $9 million and likely to rise.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I would like to know more about the Dr's motivation, considering he is a paid consultant!!!!!! I see anything that smacks of paid consultant, raises a red flag for me! Not saying he is wrong or providing misleading information...just a little skeptical.

Sorry if I sound a little cautious, but my Mother resides there

The good doctor may have an ulterior motive but I agree with him that the nursing home should be run by a private entity.

You should be very cautious and check on your Mom as often as you can to let all who work there know that there are people who care and are watching her treatment.
