The Republicans and Tea Partiers won't be satisfied until every elderly or sick or disabled person in America is set adrift on an iceberg.

Not true, we just want people to pay their own way.  You know, the seniors who need care (maybe Medicare and Medicaid can pay their way, or their health care that they got through their retirement from their employer), the people who want to ride in ambulances, the seniors who want to come together to sit around and play cards...

Their are many folks who can't "pay their own way" --- that is why they are among the least powerful and most vulnerable -----   there is absolutely NO GOOD REASON that the richest nation on earth gives billions of dollars of tax breaks to multi-millionaire Republicans and huge corporations that the GOP sucks tens of millions of dollars in campaign contributions from  but can not seem to spend money on public nursing homes and other facilities for the least powerful and most vulnerable.

Let's make Archer-Daniels-Midland and Halliburton PAY THEIR OWN WAY .... and lets take care of our elderly, disabled, sick and impoverished citizens.

I must say that I agree.  Make everything fair, so the citizens can do WHAT THEY WANT with their money.  By the way, it appears that there are some of those bilionaires that state that they agree with you...but they still haven't sent any checks to the IRS to pay extra, so the rates can be reduced for others, just check with GE to see how much their "donation" was to the IRS this past year.  Then, once their money goes in, we can keep it in our own pockets, and/or decide that we wish to help our neighbors with it.  This can be seen as proof in the amount of people making donations, both cash and in kind, to help the people in Rotterdam Junction since the flooding.

It is great that we can agree on somethings.   Personally I prefer a flat-rate tax with no exemptions, deductions or other loop-holes  ...   I believe that Mr. Forbes proposed that in a run for president a number of years ago --- and, if I remember correctly --- he suggested that if every wage-earner and business paid something like a 15% flat rate .. then we would have enough to pay for a balanced federal budget.  Of course that would put a lot of tax attorneys and tax accountants out of business --- but I am willing to do that to get a sane, simple and equitable tax system in our country.

What does that have to do with a nursing home, police station, courthouse and town office building that we cannot afford?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Of course, we could improve our town by setting the nattering nayboobs of negativity (GB, MT, KR, MC, et al) adrift on an iceberg -- an iceberg with some very hungry polar bears on it.

The elderly are being taxed out of their homes in Schenectady by wasteful spending. This is fact.

I suppose it would be wrong to endanger the polar bears by feeding the unpalatable and nauseating  Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity to them.

Paying one's own way is determined very subjectively....when the government hands out $$ for 'your own way' it becomes their way....get it......THIS AIN'T GREECE....and there will ALWAYS BE THOSE THAN DO AND THOSE THAT DONT
AND THOSE THAT CAN AND THOSE THAT WONT.....the problem is the line in the sand that we keep moving over...until it becomes so obscure there is no longer truth and reason just feel-good sh!t that may or may not do anything...

sh!t...pay me $100/hour my health insurance, vacation etc and I'll just keep telling you it will be alright see the nice wall paper and the pretty flowers......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

What are the compassionate Socialists doing now in the UK to the elderly, sick, and poor with their wonderful government run Health-care programs? Our government will be doing the same thing soon.

NISKAYUNA
District 3 hopefuls differ on new Glendale Home
Republicans attack ‘no cost’ claim of Democrats

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Republican candidates running for the Schenectady County Legislature in District 3 mocked claims by Democrats that they could build a new Glendale Home for free during a meet the candidates forum Wednesday night at Town Hall.
Republicans Jim Buhrmaster, Michael Dieterich and Kurt Semon challenged a claim made in a campaign flier sent out by Democrats Cathy Gatta, Tom Constantine and Cathy Bern-Smith. The fl ier states “Cathy, Tom and Cathy strongly support building a new Glendale Nursing Home, an action that will not cost county taxpayers one cent.”
Quipped Semon, “It’s a miracle. You can’t build something for free.”
Dr. Brian Gordon, D-Niskayuna, chairman of the county Legislature’s subcommittee on the Glendale Home, who attended the forum as an observer, explained the fl ier’s language. He said the state will cover 85 percent of the estimated $50.5 million construction cost through enhanced Medicaid reimbursements to the county. The county will pay the remaining $7.5 million by increasing the private pay rate to the market rate. Private pay accounts for 11 percent of the coverage at the nursing home, with Medicaid covering 85 percent.
The new nursing home would contain 200 beds and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013. It’s expected to operate more effi ciently than the current Glendale Home, a hodgepodge of buildings, some dating back to the 1930s. The facility’s annual budget is nearly $30 million.
Buhrmaster said the county should get out of the nursing home business. “Our private sector is trying to take the burden away from county taxpayers,” he said.
Dieterich, who is president of Modular Construction, said the county could build a nursing home for less. He also criticized the annual county subsidy to the home. The subsidy will be $7 million in the county’s proposed $295 budget for 2012, which carries a tax levy increase of 1.5 percent or a $13.60 per year increase in property taxes for a home with a full value of $142,000.
“It is a big burden, and I believe it can be built for substantially less. This issue needs to be addressed again,” he said. .........................>>>>.......................>>>>...........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01400&AppName=1

Until there is a National Healthcare System in place, the County Leg needs to stop this project.

The fact is, once the governement gets involved with free enterprise and unlevels the playing field for competition, they create a standstill for which taxpayers will be left with the bill.

Nothing is built for free. If the State covers an expense, let's get the terminology correct, that's STATE TAXPAYER MONEY. This entire project is on the back of every taxpayer in the State - the medicaid reimbursements County taxpayers.

If increasing taxes is the only way to fund this albatross, ask a senior this question: Do you want to keep your tax money and save enough to have a loved one or yourself to go into better facility? Without competition, there will be no better facilities.
