There are many folks in schenectady county that want to go back to a board of supervisors. Schenectady county would have one less layer of government and a huge chunk of change saved!!!

Glenville residents want Indian Kill Field to be designated parkland
Residents continue to petition County Legislators to designate the field next to the Indian Kill Nature Preserve as parkland to stop any future development from changing its natural beauty.
During the County Legislature meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14, Glenville residents of Cedar Lane questioned why legislators hadn’t voted to preserve the “Indian Kill Field” after reports of the county purchasing an additional 12 acres to expand the Plotter Kill Preserve in Rotterdam. Also on the agenda was a resolution to call a public hearing to designate a parcel of .155 acres as parkland in Duanesburg, with the county owned property given to the town.
“I thought this was very encouraging,” said Raymond Collar, Glenville resident, about the County expanding Plotter Kill. “It was also very frustrating to read that, because we have been trying for over five months to get the ‘Indian Kill Field’ preserved as open space or made into park land.”
Controversy began in July over the potential development of land behind the homes of Cedar Lane residents when surveyors put out stakes into the field next to the Indian Kill Preserve as part of the initial stages to construct a new Glendale Nursing Home. In response, residents formed a community group, Friends of the Indian Kill Field, to help raise community awareness to protect the land, which also includes the “sledding hill” many residents use during winter months.
On Aug. 24, Chairwoman of the County Legislature Susan Savage said in a statement to The Spotlight that the new Glendale Nursing Home would not be built on the Indian Kill Field, because the site has “inadequate space and difficult and costly engineering challenges.”
“People are here doing this, because this is important to them,” said Collar. “I don’t know what more it takes? What more do you need to do this?”
Kathy Sen, fellow Cedar Lane resident, echoed Collar’s concerns and said residents are frustrated by their inability to move the process forward and get the land preserved.
Kathleen Collar also referenced legislation drafted by Savage, D-Niskayuna, and questioned why residents haven’t seen any progress on the issue for months.
“Once the election was said and done we haven’t heard anything about it,” she said referring to Savage’s bid for the state’s 44th Senate District seat against incumbent Hugh Farley, R-Niskayuna, which she lost. “I hope that that legislation wasn’t drafted for political gain.”
Savage said all parkland created in the county is a process that takes place over time, because there are many questions that come up and must be answered.
“Although I am very supportive, I would like to move my resolution in the future and I will continue to work toward that. I was called by residents of Cedar Lane and asked to put in [a resolution] this summer, which I promptly did,” said Savage. “Although I expect to be moving my resolution in the future, there are a few more steps that have to happen before we can do that in a way that will positively affect the County of Schenectady and the residents of Glenville.”
Minority Leader Robert Farley introduced an amendment to the proposed local law public hearing for the parkland in Duanesburg to include the area in Glenville to be designated as parkland.
“It is time that we do this — we need to get this done, hence … we would be delighted to support legislator Savage’s legislation on this, but it has laid foul for five months,” said Farley, R-Glenville. “I think the time has come to do it tonight and to not waste any more time.”
While James Buhrmaster, R-Glenville, voted in support of the amendment the remaining legislators voted down the resolution.
Deputy Chair Vincent DiCerbo said he hasn’t decided yet if he would support the land being designated as a park, because the Glendale Nursing Home project is still weighing in on his decision.
“As far as I’m concerned, that parcel in Glenville is still a contender for the nursing home,” said DiCerbo. “I have never said otherwise and I will not say otherwise until I make a final decision and on that basis it would be absolutely irresponsible of me to support this resolution.”
Legislator Brian Gordon, D-Niskayuna, shared DiCerbo’s concerns about designating the area as a park before plans for the Glendale Nursing Home are finalized.
“I think that to go ahead and to make an area parkland at this juncture is premature,” said Gordon. “My concern is what to do in a proper fashion for the elderly persons in this community that need care and in order to do that in an appropriate fashion we need to have an appropriately designed facility, which we have been working on for over the last three years.”
Earlier during the meeting Cedar Lane resident Audrey Hughes said the County Legislature should act in a more responsible manner.
“I will be truthful in saying to you that the citizens of Schenectady County, not just on this issue but on many issues, are disillusioned with county government for its lack of openness, its game playing and its non-accountability,” said Hughes........................>>>>.........................>>>>....................http://www.spotlightnews.com/news/view_news.php?news_id=1293731292

This is sooooo true. It would appear that the years of liberal socialist control has finally caught up with them.

In August 2010, a group called the Friends of the Indian Kill Field asked Schenectady County Chairwoman Susan Savage to sponsor a resolution that would designate the Indian Kill Field in Glenville as “parkland.” This land borders the Indian Kill Nature Preserve and serves as buffer for an abundance of wildlife in the preserve. Additionally, it includes the popular Glenville sledding hill and provides opportunities for walking, crosscountry skiing, snowshoeing, and even stargazing. In September, Ms. Savage drafted an initiative that would protect this property from development and save it as open space. So why has she been holding up her own bill? I don’t understand this, because Ms. Savage has publicly stated on numerous occasions that she is a champion of open space. Most recently, when the Legislature agreed to pay over $50,000 to add property to the Plotterkill Preserve, she stated that “Preserving open space and adding to our parks and nature areas is a top priority.” If this is true, why hasn’t her bill been brought to the fl oor, especially as it wouldn’t cost the county a dime? Residents have been asking Ms. Savage to move this bill forward since September. Hopefully, we will see it on her agenda in February.
Landslide Savage has held up the bill because is a total fraud. She could care less about parkland nor the residents of Glenville who she allegedly represents. She has made a total fool out of herself mishandling the County Home which should never be rebuilt.
With Landslide's latest antics; removing popular Nick Barber from Real Property Services, removing Jim Buhrmaster from the County IDA, inability to cite a nursing home THAT HAS BEEN BONDED, she has proven unable to govern. It's past time the DEM back benchers stopped grumbling in private and removed her from leadership. Take another look at her humiliating defeat in your districts.
there have been 'grumbling back bench dems' for the last few years. They b**ch and moan about their own party politicos, but say and do nothing publicly. So they are in essence....no better. They are clearly party loyalists first and taxpayer representatives second....if at all!
The county home should be privatized.......no brainer here!

GLENVILLE Plans for nursing home to be shown County looking to replace aging Glendale facility BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter
County officials on Wednesday will unveil plans for a new nursing facility to replace Glendale Home, but are keeping details quiet for now. A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the main dining hall of the nursing home at 59 Hetcheltown Road. Schenectady County has been trying to build a new nursing home for the last few years to replace the Glendale facility, comprising three buildings built in 1930, 1960 and 1975, each with its own outdated heating and cooling systems. The county is also facing a mandate to install fire sprinklers in the facility. In 2008, the county Legislature authorized bonding up to $50.5 million to build a new 200-bed facility. At Wednesday’s meeting, the architects will make a presentation regarding all of the sites studied and present the plans, according to county legislator Karen Johnson, D-Schenectady, who co-chairs the Glendale Home subcommittee. “Most of us have not seen any design, any site plans, anything yet,” Johnson said. Last August, the county announced that it would not build at the current site, citing inadequate space and drainage problems. Neighbors to the existing facility had been lobbying county officials to choose an alternative site because they feared the loss of the adjacent open space containing fields and a popular sledding hill. Instead, Schenectady County Legislature Chairwoman Susan Savage, D-Niskayuna, said alternative sites were being considered, including a piece of county-owned land near the airport and the vacant Curry Road shopping plaza in Rotterdam. Johnson noted that there was a lot of opposition to the original site. “We’re trying to come up with something that makes everybody a little happier,” she said. ...................>>>>...................>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00901&AppName=1
No one has seen anything? No one knows from nuthin? Everyone is in the dark? The song remains the same. Your Schenectady County Legislature inaction. Thank you Landslide Savage.
NEWSFLASH: Unless the Town Bored gets it out of neutral the new County Home is coming to Curry Rd.
Privatize the nursing home. The Legislature has proven time and time again that they are unable to do ANYTHING correctly! The Metroplex fiasco has resulted in a $50 million dollar loss to the County taxpayers and millions more of a loss to the City taxpayers.
The Leg needs to get their dirty hands out of the nursing homes and the welfare system. They have no idea what they're doing.
Unfortunately they do. "The DEMS understand the importance of high taxes". Taxpayers flee-DSS "clients" enter en masse. And they vote straight moron DEM! This is a win-win for the DEMS and DEM controlled nonprofit community.
According to the TU there will be a meeting Wednesday at 6pm (great time) at the old County home in Glenville concerning the new home. This should be packed with taxpayers demanding they return the $50 MILLION bonds and get out of the Home business. They should also be demanding Landslide Savage's resignation for mishandling this mess.

Let's see more people against this outrageous waste of County taxpayer funds. There was a lot of opposition to the old site-let's have more opposition to any site. NO NEW HOME-follow Fulton and Montgomery Counties.
I'd rather show that Schenectady County respects its elderly and sick citizens and is willing to provide a place for them when they and/or their families can no longer care for them at home.
Build the new nursing home.
