back to the farm......industrialization has brought us here......small families, small homes and freakin' high taxes that we all have to work full-time for to survive....it's a vortex....can you feel the oxygen
being sucked away???

If we weren't told to 'spend down' the government should pay, for all these years we wouldn't be 'behind' in generational payment for care....it was all about keeping it from the government
but now the bill is on the back of the next generation and the one after that......should have been paying what you could even if it was only $10,000 or $1,000 or $100.........dont 'gift it' to the kids,,,
they waste it and it becomes a monkey on our backs......

BTW....guess what the Dept of health wants now.....everyone in a nursing home/care situation to have their own glucometer.....why?
to keep their jobs, 'stimulate' the economy etc....however, the stimulation will be up our butts.......it's not like it's an enema.....

you should just see ALL the beaurocracy that is set up.....WHAT A JOKE...now we all get to pay for this gigantic overhead just to fill out all the DAMN
paper work.....the private insurance companies (loathsome as they are) are still easier to deal with......FOLKS HAVE NO IDEA the WASTE involved
in just paperwork and dumbass regs.....

oh, then we all wanted cheaper insurance so in the 80's boom we invented specialty occupations like x-ray techs, phlebotomist techs, pharmacy techs
etc etc.....to supposedly 'free up' the nurses and aides.....what a hark.....we still cost too much for ourselves.....

just like the overbloated public school systems.....it was huge and made bigger for the boomer generation and yet right now we claim there are not
enough teachers.....however since the boomers went through, the schools have shrunk the specialists brought in (so as not to loose jobs) and yet
with a smaller generation it is costing us more......

think think think think......is the commune worth it?????........

FULTON COUNTY
Nursing proposal draws criticism

BY JASON SUBIK Gazette Reporter

Several employees of the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility spoke out against the possible sale or privatization of the facility Thursday at the Fulton County Board of Supervisors meeting.
CSEA Local 818 President Ron Briggs said Thursday’s meeting was the last opportunity the employees would have to voice concerns before a March 3 deadline for proposals from entities interested in taking over the facility.
In August, the Fulton County Board of Supervisors hired a consulting firm called the Center for Governmental Research to help them explore whether to privatize the county’s nursing home and Certified Home Health Agency.
Briggs provided the board with 338 letters from people opposing the privatization of either entity.
“I have a better solution. Keep both the residential health care facility and nursing service public and we will continue to provide the quality of care we have always given,” Briggs said.
If the county privatized the two services, about 200 of the 486 members in Briggs’ union would lose their legal protections as public employee union members. It is unknown how many of them would be rehired by a private entity or at what salaries and benefits.
Bleecker Supervisor David Howard, chairman of the county’s health services committee, said some private entities may be able to provide better services at the nursing home at lower cost because they won’t be burdened by public employee union contracts, state pension contributions and civil service restrictions that generally make public sector services more expensive. ...........................>>>>.............>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01504&AppName=1

In NYS to run a private nursing home is just like running a government one. It's the same animal they force the same regs, like have to keep 'em even if they 'hide their money'(alot of folks do) then pass
the burden on to the taxpayers and future generations.....the only thing great about going public VS private is the removal of guaranteed government bennies....at least it wont be a double
wham-bam thank you ma'am.......

GET OFF MY BACK.....

you see----those who 'hide their money' and spend down are no different than the legal beagles that jam dumb laws down our throats only to take from Peter and give to Paul with ever increasing rate/volume

Wrongful death suit settled for $125,000

BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter

A $125,000 settlement has been reached in the wrongful death lawsuit of a Glendale Home resident, according to papers filed in court this month.
The estate of Fredericka H. Forst had sued the county and former home nurse Sharon Caufield, alleging they were negligent and caused Forst’s death Nov. 14, 2001.
Caufield, then 57 and of Ballston Lake, would later be charged criminally, pleading guilty in December 2002 to a misdemeanor endangering charge, admitting that as the supervising nurse she neglected to respond to Forst when she should have.
The 79-year-old Forst died a week after the incident.
Her estate filed suit against the county in state Supreme Court in Schenectady County in February 2003, alleging that the county caused physical and mental distress, including pain and suffering from the time of the incident until her death. The settlement was fi led Feb. 11, 2010.
The Forst family was represented in the case by attorney Eric Dickson. Dickson said the family would have no comment on the settlement.
Schenectady County Attorney Christopher Gardner noted that the insurance policy covering the award did not require Legislative approval.
Regarding the investigation, Gardner said, “the county did fully cooperate with the New York State Attorney General’s investigation and we’ve worked hard to make sure something like this never happened again.” ...........>>>>...............>>>>......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01002&AppName=1

CAPITAL REGION
Nursing home finances topic of county forum
BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

..................>>>>...........>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01503&AppName=1................. Most county run homes have high employee costs, compared to private and non-profi t nursing homes, because they are unionized.
Glendale consists of three buildings, built in 1930, 1960 and 1975, some without their own heating and cooling plants.
Glendale currently has 220 beds in use, down from the original 528. Many of the bedrooms are double occupancy, and the facility, a former sanitarium, has an institutional look.
The new nursing home will feature a central core with attached multi-story wings, consisting of 140,000 square feet. The central core will contain support and clinical services, and the wings will contain single bedrooms for residents. The wings will form neighborhoods for residents, featuring dining rooms, living rooms and dens, decentralized kitchenettes and other amenities.
Medicaid will cover about 85 percent of the construction cost. Debt service on the remaining 15 percent will cost the county about $443,000 annually, county officials said.

Glendale neighbors remain in the dark on $51M project
Tell Town Board county offers no help on location, details of impending work

BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter

Neighbors to the proposed site of the new Glendale Home on Hetcheltown Road are concerned about the lack of information from the county on the project and the potential loss of open space.
The county is planning a $51 million project to build a new 200-bed facility on the site because the existing facility is obsolete.
Kathy Sen, who lives on Cedar Lane behind the facility, told the Glenville Town Board Wednesday there was a lack of transparency from the county on the project. She said surveying crews showed up without warning on the property. She worried about the loss of open space, which is home to turkey, deer and birds.
“The neighbors who greet one another on their daily walks will lose their sense of community as well,” she said.
Audrey Hughes, who also lives on Cedar Lane, said she spoke with a county representative who said the new facility is going on a hill at the property but not the popular hill used for sledding. Still, she worried about the increase in truck traffic to the site. “How will they work with us to make sure we don’t have highways behind us and huge lights shining down our faces?” she asked.
Resident Ray Collar pointed to a county resolution that said the new building would be built on the existing site so he did not know why the county would be expanding beyond the initial footprint. ...................>>>>................>>>>.....................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01301&AppName=1

They will probably spend a million on engineering and surveys and then do nothing, or the funding will fall through.

Sch’dy County keeps neighbors in dark on nursing home plan

Recently, large trucks driving in the picturesque field behind the homes on Cedar Lane, along with blue surveyor’s ribbon marking county open space, have not escaped the notice of residents on this quiet street.
Neighbors toil in their yards and ask one another if anyone has heard anything about the most recent plans for the county nursing home construction. No one has. One neighbor contacted the town of Glenville, but they stated that they didn’t know what was happening because this was a county development.
The lack of transparency concerning this project, which is anticipated to cost more than $50 million, is astonishing. After all, if any of us were to make modifications to our homes, we would complete an application, submit the appropriate plans and obtain a permit. Certainly we would want to let our friends and good neighbors know what impact our project might have on them and their quality of life.
I personally believe that Schenectady County residents deserve access to quality nursing care in a facility that is “home like” with a “neighborhood” feeling, per the county’s own request for proposal. Considerations for this building should include not only function and aesthetics for residents and staff, but also cost, location, energy effi ciency, environmental impact and design in relation to the neighborhood.
Previously it was proposed that the new nursing home would be constructed to the northeast of the current building (along Hetcheltown Road) and not impact the precious open space adjacent to the “forever wild” Indian Kill Preserve. Three times the size of the new Fortitech distribution center on 23 acres at the county airport, it is feared that the planned 140,000-square-foot nursing home will lead to the removal of the community’s treasured sledding hill and occupy most of the pristine acres that are home to pileated woodpeckers, songbirds, Northern Orioles, owls, turkey, deer, fox, and many other species. The neighbors who greet one another on daily walks will lose part of their sense of community as well.
One of the qualifications for the nursing home construction management team is to have the ability to work with staff and the public in a “cooperative, harmonious and responsive manner.” Since a key mantra of the county Legislature is “working together works,” they too should be held to the same high standards that are required of the construction management team. It is hoped that the county will inform their neighbors of project plans and include us in decision-making processes now and in the future before our valued open space is gone.

....hey, they elected a straight dem slate in the past election, and most of those people in that neighborhood, like others most assuredly voted for them. Elections have consequences!

"Lack of transparency" just during this project? We can't afford yet another white elephant.

I had a DEM legislator tell me in an unbuttoned moment that she hopes the State funding will collapse so they can dump this stunad project. The County can't afford it with it's record deficit. But they lack the spine to offend the unions and hacks pushing this down the sheeple's throats. They should partner with Baptist to provide care for those in need at a third of the cost to the taxpayer.

There are some dems that are against glendale. But they just can't seem to want to break away from the benefits of backing unions and proposing feel good legislation while getting their hands greased in the mean time.

I have NO respect, whatsoever, for anyone, from any party, who is clearly against a political party proposal, but won't speak up!! They just don't have the balls and are obviously not in office to serve the people!!!

VIEWPOINT
Open site is wrong place for nursing home

BY KATHLEEN COLLAR For The Sunday Gazette

The Schenectady County Legislature seems determined to build the new Glendale Nursing Home on a wedge of open space tucked between a suburban neighborhood and a “forever wild” nature preserve. Although developed space is available for the facility, all signs indicate that the county will build in a fashion that will damage a valued parcel of land that has been enjoyed by Glenville town residents for over 50 years.
I am urging Schenectady County Legislators NOT to:
    Destroy open space
    Devastate wildlife and habitat
    Lower property values
Damage an entire neighborhood’s sense of community and
Tromp on their quality of life.
The county recently hired the engineering fi rm Clough, Harbour & Associates to survey the open space parcel of land west of the Glendale Nursing Home and adjacent to the Indian Kill Nature Preserve “The field,” as it is known to the bordering neighborhood, includes the popular sledding hill widely used by families from all over the county.
My neighbors and I have maintained this field for the 11 years that I have lived here. We have mowed the paths for walking, picked up the trash left behind after the sledding season and planted flowers at its borders.
WHY HERE?
We now suspect the county is planning to build a new nursing home in the middle of this fi eld, and we are wondering: When there is plenty of developed space in the county to have a new nursing home, including the site of the current one along Hetcheltown Road, why on God’s green earth would the county even consider building it on, well, God’s green earth?
I attempted to contact Susan Savage, chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature, to ask for information regarding the county’s plans. She responded nearly a week later, just after two articles appeared in the Gazette regarding this issue. She gave me no firm answer on whether the county intends to build in the fi eld, saying that she simply does not know. I find it astonishing that the chairwoman of the Legislature knows so little about the location of a project that will cost taxpayers well over $50 million.
While waiting for Ms. Savage’s response, I also reached out to Glenville Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle for assistance. He said he supports saving this parcel of land for open space and he invited County Manager Kathleen Rooney to the next town meeting to share information with town residents.
Unfortunately, she declined his invitation. County Attorney Chris Gardner has stated that “we want to get this thing moving as quickly as possible.” County officials say that they expect to break ground in September, yet they maintain that they have no plans regarding placement of the facility.
How can county officials possibly break ground in a little over a month on a 140,000-square-foot building when they have no idea where it will be located? Or are these officials withholding information from their constituents for fear of a backlash during an important election year? .......................>>>>........................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r03102&AppName=1

The last two REPS in the County Legislature are both from Glenville. Why aren't they leading the opposition to this idiotic plan? Where is the REP leadership screaming about this waste of tax money and destruction of green space?  No wonder they can't make any hay and pick up any seats.

We can't afford it. It destroys precious green space. The neighbors are finally out of the stupor. A typical County half baked mess where no one's on first, the County Manager is hiding and the clock is ticking. Punt!
