What are you talking about? Karen Johnson was the worst Mayor in Schenectady history, worse than Evil Al, even worse than SOS. She has fixed nothing and by by her refusal to listen to any new ideas has costs this County millions of dollars a year. Making rude noises into the mike while the public is trying to speak constitutes some great achievement?

For a solution look to Montgomery County, they turned their Home over to a non-profit and off the taxpayer's back. Surprise! They had a County tax decrease not record increase in a recession. This is all about patronage hack jobs not senior care. That meeting was an outrage. A Krat dog and pony show that the Gazette rightfully blasted.I could not agree with PG more. The last thing we need are more short sighted politicians. If you cut taxes for one group while refusing to cut spending-everyone else must pay more.

No one seems to be able to get a handle on how to govern and take control of the city of Schenectady. And it really didn't matter whether they were reps or dems. It certainly appears that the good old GE/mafia type 'business a usual' is still alive and well in the great city of Schenectady, huh? Cause there ain't been a leader who can control it!!!

And who's getting their arms around County problems? Karen Johnson?  A good Mayor? lol. How quickly they forget-the horsey ride to nowhere-so good she lost to Frank Duci.

Who's worse Evil Al or Johnson? Both were horrible. Johnson has been on the County for many years-name one accomplishment? Oh yeah, she voted to waste a million on the Gillette House. Still sits empty and the Chamber can't even afford to finish it. She never saw a tax she didn't want to hike. The good news is that she will have an opponent in Nov-and his first name ain't Frank.

Benny,

What do you mean?  Johnson has been successful at directing hundreds of thousands of dollars of county tax revenues
to Proctor's Theater each year.  I understand that she works for Proctor's in some capacity.

50 years? We need a two term limit. Now!

Still waiting for one single accomplishment. Hosing the taxpayers and making animal noises are hardly noteworthy.

Dont worry the next step for boomers.....all the senior housing subsidized will be the 'new county/state homes'........It might be cheaper to keep
seniors in the senior housing and off premise workers/managers.......

how do we think living resources does it.....or any number of 'public living for the disabled' do it......seniors living this way will be next...

Why not nursing home at the St. Clare’s site?

There has been much talk to replace the Glendale Nursing Home at a great expense [Feb. 10 Gazette]. Why not utilize the former St. Clare's Hospital with some modifications?
The residents would be closer to medical attention either at St. Clare's or Ellis. Could this be a money saver?

Glendale Home gives patients the chance to stay near home

I grew up in Glenville, my parents have lived there for more than 65 years, and both of them worked in Schenectady County. My mother (June Frear) was the bookkeeper for the town of Glenville for 27 years and my father (Robert Frear) worked for the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department and the Schenectady County Highway Department.
My mother was hospitalized on Nov. 20 and we were faced with relocating her to a nursing home, as she was unable to take care of herself. Glendale is right in their hometown, but it was full. Our options were to send her to Fishkill or Rome. We were devastated to think that mom would be so far away with so little time left. We were lucky; just before she was to be moved a bed became available at Glendale. I was so ashamed to hope for another’s death so that room could be made for my mother, but that is the way it happens.
Mom knew where she was, just over the hill from home, and we knew that it was a comfort to her. We were also so lucky to be able to be with her every day, for the eight days that she was there. She left us on Dec. 23, to make room for someone else.
This isn’t how it should be. The county nursing home should be large enough to house anyone who lives in the community. I know about the costs, but when the time comes, and to most of us it will, the need far outweighs the cost. Please support the new facility so that your loved ones are not sent away due to the lack of rooms.

I believe that there are other nursing facilities near and around the glenville area. Maplewood and Baptist are the 2 that come to mind.

Glendale would have been my 'last' resort!

Wait, Glendale was "full" ??  I thought they had a lot of extra beds. When I've had relatives there, getting a private room was never an issue because there were so few people on the floor - and that wasn't THAT long ago - maybe a year or so.

There's something fishy about that letter. Baptist has just enlarged. Glendale has way too many empty beds. It was so bad that the State had to demand it be downsized. Even then the County Krats, refused to listen to "State Mandates" and kept more available, to avoid laying off any patronage hires.

Instead of a last resort for the poor and needy, the County home has become the first choice for those hoping to shift the burden to the oppressed taxpayer. In Amsterdam-no County home at all. They turned it over to a non-profit so it would stop being a multi million dollar burden on the taxpayer. Here-that is not an option the County taxpayers must pay and pay. No end in sight until November.
