These people will sit on this property forever! Then when they die, their kids will get the assests and do God only knows what. But then again 'the mayor of hamburg street's' daughter opened a resturant on Erie Blvd called Bambino's and that is closed. Somethig about fraud. So God only knows what that next gerneration will bring to hamburg st.

We need to stop giving pandering titles to folks......THAT is how we got into the mess we are in here in Rotterdam......just because they own a business or are a politician we give them the "front pew" and elbow up with them.....

just remember when you are in the back pew you can see the WHOLE church.....when you are in the front pew you can only see the little area in front of you

Joe has to stabilize his heartbeat, and temper before he can dream of fixing up his properties.

The CountryInn debacle was something I was kinda privy to on the inside.  Not a pretty situation.  I've been told that they're holding that corner till the state decides if they're gonna put a roundabout there - in which case they'll need that corner to complete it - problem solved.

Are they talking eminent domain here?

I don't like the looks of the Country Inn and the fact that they have done absolutely nothing with it. However, I also do not like eminent domain either.

Just like I dont like sex offenders but I don't like the new stupid law that Kosiur is campaigning on.

Eminent domain, when used to help the general population, and protect it from tyrants that just want to hold things up till they die, is justified IMHO

Eminent Domain should never be used unless it's a matter of health or safety for the greater population. There are far too many cases of eminent domain being applied to line the pockets of developers and bring tax revenue to the government involved. Eminent domain is the last thing that should be used, try paying a reasonable price for the land and maybe even a little over what the land is worth.

I couldn't agree more. You must be very very careful with Eminent domain. I have been at town meetings where residents actually suggest eminent domain to the powers to be. It's 'well they won't sell so just take it'. I have a friend that owned undeveloped land in Florida and they wanted to purchase his land to make an additional emergency hurricane route. They offered them a sum of money, they came back with one a little higher...and they excepted. The people who owned this piece of land said that because it was going to be an emergency route, Florida could 'take' the land even if they didn't want to sell. Now for THAT  reason I can understand.

But if we start that stuff in a small town like Rotterdam....your house/property could be next. I want something done with the old Country Inn, but Eminent Domain is clearly NOT the answer!

Eminent domain is not necessary in Rotterdam. It is also not a good idea. The government should never be allowed to take anyone's land away from them.
