Some moron thinks Stratton "is doing a good job" because of Mound Pleasant? I'm sick and tired of these Mr Magoo types that can't see the complete ruin the City is in. Stratton and his crew worked 6 months on this? They all must be thrown out. City layoffs should have happened 6 months ago. Nothing is happening and now they want to hot potato this to the school district that is also facing a huge deficit because of the end of Federal stimulus money. Stratton should take a job with the horrible Obama administration. He would fit right in. Nothing is his fault and he is totally clueless on how to fix the mess he created. Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul. The best is the County remarks. So much for working together boys? It's all a load of BS while the County and City are in fiscal ruin because of years of Democratic rule. |

City good for shoppers, but not enough of them
Recently I have been shopping in downtown Schenectady. There are many little gems in the area. However, the merchants are still hurting. One merchant told me that I was his first, and probably only, paying customer that day. He said that what the city needs is another Carl Company. There just aren’t enough people being attracted to downtown. Another problem for me is that there are no benches. This is important to me since I am partially disabled and need to sit and take a break once in a while. I do pray that Schenectady can once again thrive.

Lorene must not have dropped into Orion’s bong shop. The two bong shops on Jay St. are probably the longest running business downtown. They are the money makers; they sell the drug paraphernalia which is stimulated by the rampant drug trade in Schenectady. If I were a betting man, I'd bet Orion’s and Peiser Miser are the some of the only companies that have shown an increase in profits over the 12 years of Metroplex. |

A merchant had one customer for the day Downtown? A good day. This is not the official Metrograft/DSIC/DVR line. 5 more little gems are closing Downtown. Metrograft/DSIC is crushing the small business person. Owners that have been there for four generations are shuttering. The Bistro had to lower the asking price $55,000-still no takers. Where's Mexican Radio? What's the latest on 440 State sale to a major corporation as stated by Mercury Morris in January? Who bid on the Schenectady Armory? Many questions-no answers. The entire Downtown facade has crumbled. DEMS that continuing lying about Downtown "miracles" must be held accountable in November. |

This is sad, but so true! Schenectady and the Plex have failed miserably. Dumping millions into an area that will never generate enough profit to even pay back what was spent for it. Parker Inn - no one want to stay in the City for more than a night, let alone a day. What are you going to do? Walk back and forth to Villa Italia? That's what the Lottery employees do because they don't want to venture any further in the City than they have to. Clean up the neighborhoods first, get people to move here and STAY here, then you have a City people want to live...not simply want to drive through. |

The main problem with the Parker Inn is the lack of parking, IMHO.
The Hampton Inn is doing very well from what I can tell. |

Jack I'd like to agree with you, but on the Parker Inn website it clearly states that there is free parking available in the Proctors lot. The Hampton Inn has dining, pools, fitness center, a shop...it's fully packed and guest don't have to leave. With the Parker Inn your forced to find something to do in the City and there is really nothing much to do. Again, a Plex black hole. |

The Parker Inn situation says more about the owner than it does about Metroplex. BTW, I was never a proponent of the Parker Inn project. I voiced concerns over the viability of that project when it was first proposed. |

It was viable-until the Hampton Inn was approved by Metrograft a block away. The Hampton Inn has a national following and better pricing. Parking is plentiful at the Proctor's lot. Reread the first page of this thread. A "big comeback" because some governmental gin mill sold a lot of spiced rum? It's absolutely hilarious. The Gazetto reporters should write for Comedy Central. All a big nothing propped up by the $100 MILLION in our sales taxes. No jobs-no sales tax revenue increase. The DEM County Legislators can't flee quickly enough. Can't wait for the term to end to flee to Saratoga County. Schenectady making a comeback-like the Chicago Cubs are making a comeback? |

Ok I didn't know that - but still compared to the Hampton inn, where the parking lot is within 30 feet of the door, well lit, probably has security cameras, etc... I'd never really consider staying there. I had a friend stay there for once and they didn't have a fitness room for her to walk on a treadmill - next time, she stayed at Hampton Inn. |
