HISTORICAL OPEN HOUSE

DUANESBURG — Joe Merli will be hosting an open house Sunday afternoon for people interested in touring the beginnings of the Canal Street Historical Society.
Merli used sections of the defunct Wallace Armer hardware store in Schenectady to recreate a late 19th century-period general store on property next to his shop off Route 20. He recently completed exterior renovations of a 1950s-era locomotive, which will eventually be converted into a malt shop.
Merli invites visitors to inspect his handiwork from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday. His shop is located about two miles east of the Interstate 88 interchange in Duanesburg.
Merli’s project to build the Canal Street Historical Society is aimed at protecting a snapshot of the period.

Duanesburg ambulance not worth the money

Duanesburg taxpayers, what are we paying for? Recently, I received a letter from Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps [DVAC], looking for donations. Its header proudly proclaiming, “Serving our neighbors 24/7.” Really? As of the latest roster, dated Oct. 7-13, 46 out of 168 hours were covered. Now the town wants to raises our taxes 6.1 percent so they can hand DVAC $80,000? Where are the improvements they promised? DVAC is barely making calls. They have missed at least five calls this month, they no longer sit on the Pop Warner games or Electric City motorcycle races and are no longer covering their whole territory, as stated in their certificate of need. Is there a solution? Perhaps, but throwing our money at a dead horse isn’t one of them.

GAIL DYKEMAN
Delanson The writer is DVAC’s former secretary.

It is sad that she chooses to remain a disgruntled X member who would rather be a part of the problem than a part of the solution.  DVAC has worked very hard and is currently restructuring.  When an organization falls as far down as DVAC did problems do not get solved overnight.  They have 4 members currently going through emt training and should be certified in December.  There are 3 or 4 more emt's who recently signed on and are going through internal training.  They need a bit more time.  Will it work out in the end????  The residents of Duanesburg had better hope so.

It was under the management of the former Board of Directors and officers, that include Gail Dykeman, that DVAC lost many members and failed the residents of the Town of Duanesburg.  The by-line to the editorial discloses that she is the former secretary, but doesn't state that her membership was revoked several months ago.

I was being polite.  For those who don't know, Brad has chosen to become part of the solution.  He has become a member of DVAC serving as a driver and a Lieutenant for one of the rigs.  Thanks Brad.

Um I dont think so my lady freind. The mayor of Schenectady approved a tower with the help and work of Judy D and Susan Savage for the GE which is a much greater and larger project over there. You should check it out if you are in doubt and stop taking the credit for the environment that the demos have done the work for

Um, I do think so little boy.  If you would only learn to read you would see that I indicated it was the first residential wind tower in the county.  And don't you remember Susan Savage was "over there" stating that there was no wind to worry about in Schenectady County.  You should check it out if you are in doubt.....I don't recall asking for any credit for the environment.

Rene is an icon and someone who actually CARES about her constituents.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
