I REALLY have to believe it is only a handful of city cops who are dishonest and looking out for their own interests. I have to believe that for my own sanity. To believe different would mean you can't place trust in anyone regardless of their position. B Gage, you are maybe an officer?? What is the mind set of these people that live in the city? Killing eachother, drugs, etc. My heart breaks and my blood boils at the same time when I hear about another episode in Schenectady. Why do they hate so much? Where is their pride and self respect? Do they think they are normal and we are the unstable ones? Do they know there are good communities they could be a part of if they tried? Or do they try and just give up?
Rene, I work with folks that are born and raised in almost the lowest sections in Schenectady. I will not make excuses for their choices or views, but, I will rant at our government sponsored non-education, non-enlightenment PC brand of 'help'. Most of them will not call a police officer afraid of who is zooming whom.....and alot of those folks think in the very basic ways of life. Food, fun, drink, sex what ever. And most times are HOOKED on the 'help' from the government.
There is not a single answer for the issues in problems like this. Society has become so politically correct we dont even know how to call a bad guy/gal a bad guy/gal.
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS

Just so you know, the cops are definitely hanging out in this area right now, keeping an eye on things.
Big deal. It's just a bit too late now. It's all over the city. And the cops can't be everywhere all of the time. We have got to stop this city government from giving out hand-outs to the chronically unemployed. To stop making excuses for the inexcusable. Start by holding these people responsible for their bad behavior. Clamp down on slum lords who rent to these bums. Stop Section 8 from protecting these welfare lifers. No more plea deals with the city DA. Send their asses to jail. The city is plagued with not-for-profits, and it isn't helping one single bit!!!!!
Come on here...this is way beyond the cops. The city government can no longer guarantee the safety of it's residents!!

So many vastly different opinions, I feel parts of all are correct. We have, as a society sucked the pride and self respect out of people. It isn't just government or just a lack of cops. it is all of us......maybe?? I don't know, but it does make me sad to see the anger in such young souls.
SCHENECTADY Council also OKs wellness coaches for police officers BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Kathleen Moore at 395-3120 or moore@dailygazette.com
WELLNESS COACHES The council also decided to spend $42,000 on wellness coaches who will help the police get fit. The 18-month voluntary program consists of brief consultations in which officers will get personalized health-risk appraisals and fitness plans, Assistant Chief Mark Chaires said. He estimated that each officer would spend less than 15 minutes with a coach to create the personalized plans. “It will be three to five minutes typically, 15 max,” he said. Employees from Wellness Coaches USA will also run programs to encourage officers to lose weight. Chaires told the council last week that he hoped the program would be so successful that it could be used to negotiate with health insurance companies for a rate reduction. “We’re hoping to show measurable improvement,” he said. “Right now all we can say to the health insurance vendors is, ‘Please don’t raise our rate anymore.’ That’s not much of an argument.” Each officer’s spouse can meet with the coaches as well. “They’re on our health insurance too,” Chaires said. He added that he expects most officers to participate. “There’s always a lot of talk about wellness and health,” he said. “There’s a lot of interest there.” Wellness Coaches USA reports 95 percent participation in the voluntary program, Chaires said. The council agreed to pay for the program for 18 months. However, if it goes well, it may be renewed and offered to the entire government workforce, Councilman Mark Blanchfield said.
This is ridiculous! Why isn't the union footing this bill? Or better yet, why didn't Hamilton insist that his officers be in 'good shape'. Why should the tax payer pay for this? And then we may have to pay for the entire government work force! Nonsense!

The cure is simple just have the officers stay away from the donut and pizza shops.
In Schenectady - they're busy running so fast during their shift there's no time for donuts and pizza ... what they really need is a sleep clinic. Now, the last time I was in Rotterdam, it seemed the donut shop near 5 corners was quite popular
