I'm not too sure where to put this, so I decided to put it here to 'raise the issue' again of Walmart The Bad Neighbor
I was informed of a few incidents in the coldbrook neighborhood
1. new family with teenage kids moved into neighborhood (that's nice we like that) 2. someone spray painted the word bug on one of the newly paved side streets (the one right across from the walmart fence) 3. someone then spray painted the word bug on their neighbors car 4. someone then slashed the tires on their neighbors car 5. someone then slahed the tires on another neighbors car 6. there was a teenage boy changing his clothing in daylight at the neighbors fence
The Rotterdam police were called for these incidents and were told by the dispatcher: "Well, you do live behind walmart"
Now,,,,,,hhhhmmmm,,,,,, I'm not sure where to go with this or who is to respond or what to do, maybe we could enact a dont sell spray paint to anyone under 18 law (of course if you are on the road to 'bad'-- getting spray paint is quite a small issue), besides that is a waste of time.
And I will state this-----IF THE AREA LOOKS LIKE IT IS AGING OR WE DONT CARE,,,THEN THOSE WHO FAIL TO CARE OR WHO ARE INTEGRITY CHALLENGED WILL COME AND CLAIM TERRITORY-----JUST LOOK AT HAMBURG STREET.........
SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME.......WE ARE BECOMING A SORRY SIGHT.......
I AM SO EXCITED AND JUST CANT WAIT FOR THE THRIFT SHOP TO OPEN........(I'm sure that will be the next response from the dispatcher)

The Rotterdam police were called for these incidents and were told by the dispatcher: "Well, you do live behind walmart"
And this means what? Are they saying, 'don't bother us since you live by walmart'? Or are they meaning, 'expect this behavior since you live by walmart'?
Sometimes I think we should leave Rotterdam just the way it is. Yes it clearly needs some cleaning up, but with Walmart, the new up and coming thrift shop, the mall on the aquifer, the apts near a sewage plant, masullo's on a swamp.....perhaps we should just clean up what we've got and leave everything alone. It could get worse ya know?

Do we now have to start taping phone calls when we call 911? That would be an interesting call to hear...and to see who the 911 dispatcher was. I'd be looking for someone's head.
When a complaint is made the police are supposed to do their job and find out whose doing the vandalism. If they're not going to do their jobs maybe someone who really wants the job should replace them including the police dispatcher.
Okay, first the cops....Perhaps the dispatcher made that statement with tongue in cheek. I can understand the frustration when the caller heard that. But we do live in a small town and we probably either know the dispatcher or someone who does. I mean it isn't like calling the FBI or Homeland Security. And we need to know the rest of the story. Did the cops, in fact, show up?
Now second...after reading about this, I drove down the street and did see the spray paint on the new paved road. And ya know, if I lived there, I'd be pissed too. Just when Walmart was 'trying' to get their act together and the town paved the road, some little bast*** comes along and craps it up again!! I also noticed that Walmart actually left one end section of the fence open for those who wish to use it to enter or exit the area. It's still a crappy fence but at least it's cleaned up!

I was told by the person affected by these incidents that the police never showed up(as of the date I first posted the story)......so one of the neighbors sits up at nite with a shotgun......who gets to use their power first-the law with the bite or the lone shotgunner????
Let's see---spray paint or shot gun.....what is the weapon here(will the government make us 'play nice' and take away our toys).....you can 'kill' a neighborhood/town with spray paint and slashing tires and poor neighbors such as walmart....so what are we to do?????
Here is a law: no shotgun or spray paint with in 5" of any dwelling or lawn measuring 5"x5" or any paved area greater than 5"x5" and the person using such weapons must be taller than 3' and must not have a past record of being a sex offender and must not be related in anyway to persons in the area, in area in which such thing occurs the offender will be arrested and incarcerated for a time as $$ permits and 'experts' deem acceptable time has elapsed.....that should just about cover it all....oh wait....let's make folks register to purchase guns and spray paint and show ID.....
some of that is in effect already--but a criminal will get what they want when they want--unless you put them on an island

Senders, you're a riot, but after the carnival being in town last night (it is officially Clown Week, as could be seen at the Town Board Meeting last night), you would think this would have some chance of passing.

"Bob no change" never disappoints us with his aimless questions and always wants to stay in the past where this town has been for the last 50 years and that's exactly why we're in the state of affairs that you see today.
And that is how the good old Walmart got to be where it is! And now a brandeeee new thrift store. Hmmmmm....doesn't sound like small town living to me. It just sounds like putting 10 pounds of sh** in a 5 poud bag!!

Wal-Mart cuts profi t outlook, cites economy LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. cut its profit outlook for the year, saying Tuesday during its second-quarter earnings announcement that consumer spending has slowed in the U.S. and abroad. Analysts said Wal-Mart still has not overcome merchandising difficulties and thus is less poised than its discount competitors, such as Target Corp., to build sales among penny-pinching consumers. The world’s largest retailer has put a new focus on price cuts, moving away from its attempts to get more well-to-do grocery shoppers to walk over to the general merchandise aisles. Retail analyst Patricia Edwards of Wentworth Hauser and Violich in Seattle said Wal-Mart is making some of the right moves. “But until [merchandise is] in stock at the right time and for the right reason, price doesn’t matter,” Edwards said. The company said that for the full year, earnings per share from continuing operations is now estimated to be between $3.05 per share and $3.13 per share. The company’s initial forecast was in the range of $3.15 per share and $3.23 per share.

Wasn't the story that Wal-Mart was always for low prices? Then why would this be a shift, unless they have been worried about other things lately...like their reputation.
It does look pretty nice and you are correct...the dead shrubs are in fact DEAD. They look like little 'Charlie Brown Christmas Trees'. You can see clear through to the back of the store.

Children across the country are preparing to go back to school. It’s time for us to send Wal-Mart back to school, too. For years, Wal-Mart has earned failing grades for its treatment of American workers, children, and taxpayers. Wal-Mart earns an “F” for paying poverty-level wages. Wal-Mart earns an “F” for breaking child labor laws again and again, right here in America. And Wal-Mart earns an “F” for pushing its health care costs onto taxpayers. Our taxes are higher because Wal-Mart fails to provide company health care to more than half of its workers. In 2005, taxpayers were forced to pay an estimated $1.37 billion to cover Wal-Mart workers’ health care. Every tax dollar that goes to Wal-Mart is a tax dollar that could otherwise buy textbooks, repair schools and help children learn. Shouldn’t our tax dollars go to schools, not Wal-Mart?
