Avon, I get the sense that you are not pleased with both of these developments. I think there are people that would have preferred a different type of business there, but where are they? And it certainly seems that any 'trucking anything' would have been the prime business right at the I88 entrance. You must admit that the I88 entrance is a trucking company's dream.
I believe that McLane's is a shoe in. Flying J's...now that's another story. That will be a wait and see.

ROTTERDAM McLane’s Feuz Road project moves ahead Ground breaking unlikely this year BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Planning Commission officials Tuesday accepted the final environmental impact statement for the McLane Foodservice Inc. distribution center proposed for Feuz Road. Accepting the document advances the long-standing plan to the fi - nal site plan review process. The proposal is to construct a 168,000-square-foot distribution center, a large parking lot and 12,500-squarefoot truck repair building, The commission was short both chairman Lawrence DiLallo and vice-chairman Frank Renna, but all five present voted in favor. Despite accepting the impact statement, acting Chairman Thomas Yuille said there remain some hurdles the project must clear, such as issues with drainage along Feuz Road. He also suggested adding a right-turn lane to the Becker Drive intersection with Route 7. “The site plan is not complete and there are some additional outstanding issues,” he said following the vote. Town Planner Peter Comenzo said moving to the site plan review stage is a step forward. However, he said final approvals for the project are unlikely to be received in time to break ground this year. The impact statement includes all of the statements made during the spring public hearing on the project, Nearly 40 area residents turned out to voice concerns about center, ranging from its impact on Route 7 traffic to the effect it might have on the quality of life in the nearby residential developments. McLane distributes mainly to fast food companies such as Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Long John Silver’s. The company now employs about 135 workers at its Guilderland plant and could add up to 40 more jobs if it builds the Rotterdam center, Comenzo said the impact statement will be made available to the public this week. Copies will be posted at Town Hall, the Rotterdam branch of the Schenectady County Public Library and on the town Web site. WMHT SITE PLAN In other business, the commission approved a special use permit for Michael Dura, the managing member of Prex Capital Partners LLC and owner of the former WMHT building off Fern Avenue, to locate up to 10 businesses in the 29,000-square-foot structure. Among the businesses negotiating to lease space is a General Electric research and development facility, which is expected to locate in what was the station’s Studio A.
Planning Commission adopts McLanes Final Environmental Impact Statement this evening. Flying J truck stop has plans out for a sports store, market and truck stop. "Rotterdam NY, A Nice Place to Truck (I mean live)! Thank you Town Board members!
I am not surprised about McLane's being approved. I hope that they take the residential neighborhoods into consideration during this development. Although McLanes is a good company that will provide decent wages and benefits, it will come with environmental issues for the residents.
As for Flying J's, I personally have mixed feelings. First, we live but a stones throw from that parcel. So we are not looking forward to living that close to a truck stop. Second, and realistically, that area is a truckers dream come true. The location is prime.
Now if you are Going east from I88, and just before you go over the thruway bridge, to the left there is a large barn with a for sale sign on it. It is WinMorrison Realty, the same ones that sold Mr. Crounse's farm and Mr. Collier's home.(location for the proposed Flying J's) The sign states that there are 23acres available. I did receive and email from WinMorrison that said they would be sending out updated info to all of us in this area in the very near future.
I will keep everyone updated as information comes in.
Well, I was talking with the people who drive tractor trailers and they said that even though this Flying J's would be a benefit to them, it will be horrible for the community. They said that truck traffic will increase 10 fold through out Rotterdam by truckers vying their way to the I88 truck stop. They also said that it will bring in the 'undesirables' from all over the country. And from what they said, their are many many undesirables out there driving tractor trailer.
They said that they would love it but in all honesty will be very bad for Rotterdam and the surrounding communities. They actually said, 'lock your doors and keep your daughters home'. Nice, huh?

After the last round of posts about this, I did some checking since D'burg is the next exit. I found out some of the same things you did Bumble. Sometimes a business in the community for the sake of having a new business is not a good thing.
I did some research too, and found the same information to be true. I have relatives who live in communities where there are Flying J's and they said the same thing about the increase in truck traffic and the riff raff.
I often wondered why there weren't more of these truck stops right on the thruways and turnpikes instead of in communities. I'm sure this will be a hot topic in Rotterdam as this issue attracts more attention.
Duh,,,,and the 'planners' didn't see this.....there's a reason why there is a $7.00 parking fee downtown......so now we 'invite' the riff-raff(of a different animal),,,,,we do vote/plan with out pocket books......we must weigh the value......SI on the aquifer exists because of our pocketbooks......

I attended the town board meeting and asked the board if there has been any news on the Flying J's truck stop. Mr. Tomasone said that at this time there has been nothing presented to the town. He also stated that they may be waiting for sewers.
We received a letter in the mail from Win Morrison Realty, the company that is listing the homes and land on Rt. 7. In the letter they said that they have now listed all of the major parcels that boarder the NYS Thruway (I90) and I-88, which are being offered as a single parcel. (And we are in between). They also stated that there has been a significant amount of interest since listing these properties. And although MLS listings may be public knowledge, Win Morrison Realty's activity is confidential.
They also stated in the letter that the one home that they do have listed now, has been lowered and since then they are beginning to see some renewed interest.
So they are asking us again to reconsider, since we will undoubtedly consider relocation. And of course it would give them more negotiation power. We will probably, in the near future, sit down with them again and discuss our concerns.
Joann, How does that make you feel? I should probably review the thread but I'm lazy tonight. Are you upset about it or do you see it as an opportunity for you and yours? I think if it were me I would have have issues, but the location is prime for commercial. Of course it may not have been when you moved there. We have lots of room in D'burg for ya
Rene, we do not have any issues at all. It is pretty much just the waiting. There are things that we could or should be doing to the house, but we won't put any more money into it right now. We would LOVE to move to Duanesburg. That was what we talked about right from the beginning. We would like Duanesburg or Altamont. Of course money is always the deciding factor.
And to both Rene and Mobil, the way Schenectady county is being governed these days, we should move right out all together. It seems that our elected officials just don't know how to cut spending. It is just a tax and spend Schenectady government.
