I am not in favor of a flying j's at I88, but it is obvious that the present truck stop can't facilitate the current influx of trailers. It is mobbed all of the time. And I never went there for anything, let alone gas. They are too expensive.

ROTTERDAM Truck stop on I-88 to close up Renovations will shut off pumps for three months BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Truckers on Interstate 88 and the Thruway may want to fuel up before they pass through Rotterdam over the next three months. Starting Sunday, the diesel pumps at the Quickway truck stop at Duanesburg Road and the I-88 interchange will be shut off in preparation for a multimillion-dollar renovation project. The property is being sold by Lane-Mirabito to Pilot Travel Centers LLC, which is the nation’s largest operator of truck stops. Once the deal is completed, work will begin on a project to relocate the truck scale assembly, install two new diesel pumps at the fuel island and rework the traffic patterns within the truck parking area. The new owners will also build a large berm at the western edge of the truck stop as a buffer for the adjoining properties, according to plans approved by the town Planning Commission in November. Town officials met with the prospective owners on Thursday to discuss the closure and how to best alert truckers who might rely on the stop for fillups or a quick nap. There are no diesel fuel stations near the Quickway, and the town does not allow tractor-trailers to park along Rotterdam thoroughfares. “We’re trying to make sure folks are aware the truck stop is closed,” said Peter Comenzo, the town’s planner One of the conditions of the project approval was that the truck stop close during the renovation. Comenzo said truckers should be able to use the parking lot during the first phase of project, but the Planning Commission decided the construction could pose a hazard if the pumps and convenience shops remained operational. Comenzo said officials from both the state Department of Transportation and the Thruway Authority were informed of the closure. He said the town also notified both the Galesi Group and the Golub Corp., which operate major trucking hubs along Duanesburg Road. “We’re trying to coordinate with DOT so that there is adequate notification [to truckers],” he said. The truck stop was first approved in November 1996, but construction was stalled for nearly three years after Eagle Crest, the original developer, ran into financial problems. At the time, the developer had to scale back design plans because of the cost to construct a large septic system. Lane-Mirabito acquired the property for $600,000 from Moyer Petroleum in 1998, according to county records. The seven-acre truck stop, which includes a 2,400-square-foot fast food restaurant and a 10,000-square-foot repair shop, was assessed at $3,200,000 in 2008. Calls placed to a public relations company that represents Pilot were not returned Thursday. I emailed Mr. Lane from Win Morrison, the real estate company marketing the RT7 corridor. I asked him if the sale of the 3 large parcels were finalized.
He did email me back and stated that the sale fell apart last week due to the failing economy. He went on to say that they are about to re-market the properties but didn't see anything happening for at least a couple of years.
So I guess the RT 7 corridor will be in a holding pattern for a while.
In talking with other people interested in the Rotterdam/Duanesburg road area I understand that you have an interest in the future of our Exit 25A properties.
Win Morrison, our principal Broker, and I will be in Rotterdam later this morning and into the afternoon. We have several appointments setup to discuss these properties and would welcome an opportunity to meet with you.
I can be reached at the office number 845-xxx-xxxx (until 9:30 a.m. this morning), or anytime on my mobile phone, as we will be travelling to Albany and Rotterdam after 9:30.
Regards,
Robert G. Baum, Realtor Mobile: 845-xxx-xxxx Win Morrison Realty Commercial Division 56 John Street
Nope. We wouldn't have had time to meet with them today or tomorrow. I'm sure they will be back in the area again sometime. This is what they do when the are starting to market the area. Which they will have to do again since the last offer failed.
Company pulls plan for truck travel center MOREAU — Plans for a 25-acre truck travel center on Route 9 near Northway Exit 17 in the town of Moreau have been withdrawn by Pilot Travel Centers LLC, a town official said Tuesday. The property is currently the site of Exit 17 Range and Mini Golf and includes a golf driving range and an 18-hole miniature golf course. Moreau Supervisor Preston Jenkins said he was disappointed that the project by the nation’s largest retail operator of travel centers had been scrapped. Jenkins said Pilot Travel Centers LLC recently merged with another operator of truck and car travel centers, called Flying J Inc., and this may be why Pilot changed its mind about the new travel center in Moreau. The preliminary merger agreement announced in mid-July has Pilot agreeing to pay off $100 million in debt financing for Flying J’s operations. This and other terms of the agreement will allow Flying J Inc. to emerge from bankruptcy protection, according to a joint statement from the two companies. Jenkins said the travel center at Exit 17 would have included a McDonald’s restaurant and other amenities. He said the travel center would have employed as many as 75 full- and part-time employees.
Well, I guess we DO have a flying j's after all.....since pilot bought them out.
