Obama makes deal to allow arms sales to Communist Vietnam government that 58k Amiricans died fighting against.

Obama said at a news conference with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang that the decision was not about China, but rather one “based on our desire to complete what has been a lengthy process toward moving toward normalization with Vietnam.

“This change will ensure that Vietnam has access to the equipment it needs to defend itself and removes a lingering vestige of the Cold War,” he said. “It also underscores the commitment of the United States to a fully normalized relationship with Vietnam, including strong defense ties with Vietnam and this region for the long term.”

The U.S. has not sold lethal weapons to Vietnam since communists took control of the entire country at the end of the Vietnam War, which left nearly 60,000 Americans dead. President Ronald Reagan officially prohibited arms sales in 1984.

“Vietnam very much appreciates the U.S. decision to completely lift the ban on lethal weapon sales to Vietnam, which is clear proof that both countries have completely normalized the relations,”

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Did the US win those wars?  Weren't you in Vietnam to protect the South Vietnamese from the evil Ho Chi Minh?  Could have saved millions of lives if the US tried diplomacy 40 years ago.  Looks like the military industrial complex is going to make more money in Vietnam.  What a shame.  What a waste of lives.

Trade pitch turns Obama into salesman for Vietnam shoes

Americans could see more shoes stamped ‘Made in Vietnam’

Obama pushes stalled Pacific Rim trade deal on trip to Vietnam

Each year, tens of millions of pairs of shoes made in Vietnam find their way into stores in the United States, from Macy’s and Nike to Target and Walmart.

And if President Barack Obama uses his first trip to Vietnam to sell a sweeping 12-nation trade pact – slashing tariffs on products imported to the United States – Americans could see even more Vietnam-made shoes in their local stores, kicking up concerns by those already uneasy about the still sluggish American economy.

Though Japan has received much of the attention, it’s actually Vietnam, with one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economies, that has the most to gain from the Trans Pacific Partnership. The deal would allow Vietnam’s manufacturing industry – already booming because of low labor costs – to export more products to the United States, primarily clothes, textiles and shoes.

For Americans looking to buy a new pair of shoes, that could mean lower costs and more options as companies stop making design decisions based on the 436 ways shoes are classified for tariffs, some as high as 40 percent.

“The tariffs are just a tax on consumers,” said Matt Priest, president of Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America, which is pushing the trade agreement. He estimates U.S. companies in Vietnam could save $500 million in footwear import taxes in a year.

30 years from now, American president will sell arms to Taliban government, and there will be a photo of a US president shaking hands in front of Osama Bin Laden statue.

Yes, selling arms to the Communist government for which 58k Americans died fighting against just 50 years ago.  So the US weapons manufacturer's made millions arming the Americans fighting against the Communist Vietnamese, now 50 years later, they are arming the Communist Vietnamese.
