Demolish the old Friendly's restaurant - and build a new office, with a drive through.

It is a FACT that drive thru is NOT essential, it is merely a convenience for the lazy.

Now if only the rest of the eyesores in Rotterdam could be sold and developed. The two biggest eyesores are at the 4 corners {the home of the pigeons] and the old K-mart plaza.

CVS has been approved and construction should be starting pretty soon.  The Curry Road shopping center is working its way through the approval process.  Sunmark is just starting the approval process.  Other projects are "in the pipeline" or "on the horizon."  In the next 24 months, we will be seeing a number of very positive developments in the town.

Curry Road has been working it's way through the process for one hell of a long time with no results. Before CVS construction can proceed the eyesore has to come down yet there it sits.

Actually that is not true, the process for the Curry Road Shopping Plaza just started late in 2015.

As for the CVS project that was approved in early December 2015.  So that should be getting underway - demolition of existing structures first - soon.

And was anything resolved to keep the traffic safer and stop the delivery trucks from going on the residential streets, wasn't that the issue some years ago when you were the sole person who voted in favor of endangering lives.

How many brick and mortar banks are needed on one street in the town?

If you were truly concerned you would have attended the planning committee/board meetings to hear what was or was not being done and VOICE YOUR POSITION...but that would require you do something other than troll cyberspace.

Surprised you are not spouting BS facts about the proposed DRIVE THRU at Sunmark!

Based on what I have seen and know about the project so far, it appears, so far, to be a good thing for Sunmark and the town.

"Actually that is not true, the process for the Curry Road Shopping Plaza just started late in 2015". says DV. That property has been a dump since Price Chopper turned it over to the town. Several other projects have fallen through over the years since then. The town acquired that land a long time ago and you're selling a pile of crap that the project just started being approved in 2015.  Kmart closed in 1989 and has been vacant ever since. http://flickriver-lb-1710691658.us-east-1.elb.amazonaws.com/photos/33445721@N04/10533926023/

You do know that the Curry Road Plaza was not one single property but rather several different parcels ?????????????????????????????????
You do know that the town only owned a portion of the parcels and NOT all of it???????????????????????????????????
You do know that the NONE of the proposals (over the years) could go forward until the other owners actually reached agreement to and sold their parcels???????????????????????????????????

So - I am just telling you the truth.  The approval process just started in late 2015.
I accept your apology for your mistake in characterizing my statements as a "pile of crap."

Well, it appears they're investing THEIR money in building a new branch - so they must think there's a need for at least one more.  Needed? That's for them to decide.

ROTTERDAM
Redevelopment projects plod on
BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

The longest and arguably most visible sign of a stalled commercial redevelopment effort lies about a half-mile from the vacant CVSowned property, at the former Curry Road Shopping Center. Efforts to redevelop the plaza have dragged along since August 2007, when town officials voted to sell the property to a private developer proposing to build 94 two-bedroom condominiums and a modest streetfront retail space.
During the early 1980s, the 77,000-square-foot plaza supported a Kmart and several businesses. When Kmart vacated the anchor store in 1989, the company tried to sublet its space to Price Chopper, while the owners of the plaza attempted to lease the store to Hannaford Brothers. The companies engaged in legal sparing for more than five years until Price Chopper bought the property outright in 1996.
The Golub Corp., Price Chopper’s parent company, initially discussed moving offices to the plaza but faced difficulties during the planning process because of the property’s location on Curry Road. Instead, the badly deteriorated plaza remained largely vacant for nearly a decade until 2003, when Golub donated it to the town to establish a new government center.
After mulling uses for the property for several years, the town decided to offer it for private development. They eventually awarded the redevelopment project to Polito-Columbia Properties LLC, which has since been negotiating a deal to move Golub’s print shop and a Trustco Bank — the only tenants remaining within the sprawling plaza.
Dan Polito, a principal with the development group, said the deal to redevelop the property is still chugging forward, only slowly. He said the deal is complicated because the tenants need to be relocated and due to lingering environmental issues.    For Immediate Release:

Former Curry Road Plaza Buildings to Face Wrecking Ball

Four New Buildings Planned for Vacant Retail Site

$20 Million Investment to Boost Rotterdam and Schenectady County

(Schenectady County, NY)  The Town of Rotterdam will move forward today with the selection of a development team for the former Curry Road Plaza, a vacant 12-acre site on a busy corridor in Rotterdam. Plans call for razing the two existing buildings on the site to be replaced by four new buildings with a total new investment of $20 million. This project is a joint effort with Schenectady County and is another example of the progress made through the County’s unified economic development team.  Earlier this year, the Town and County worked together to develop an RFP for the property which is owned by the Town.
