It figures -- when the nayboobs are backed into the corner - because they know that they have been proven wrong - they have to resort to lying personal attacks.

I'll agree with you on the personal attacks and vulgar language ... just because they spell it incorrectly, it's still vulgar.  I'm not surprised the forum owner allows either one.

We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

You are not a homeowner.

Even renters pay taxes indirectly.

Like you.

We ALL know DV is NOT a property/school taxpayer, and if he wants to claim that he is, then he should explain why his name does NOT appear on the tax rolls.  ONLY people whose name is on the tax rolls are property/school taxpayers

He does not even qualify for the state's household credit as a renter because he does not rent.

I can't help it if nayboobs can't understand that if it were not for PILOTS and Metroplex that there would have been NO improvements Downtown and in other parts of the City-County of Schenectady.  Add to that the bursting of the real estate bubble which LOWERED PROPERTY VALUES for both residential and commercial properties ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY - and any reasonable person of average intelligence would understand that without PILOTS and Metroplex things would be very bleak for our city.
Unfortunately, nayboobs are blinded by their hatred and refuse to acknowledge ANYTHING that happened positively in our community.

Um DV, that real estate crisis is OVER.

Please explain WHY ALL the other municipalities around here have property values INCREASING while Schenectady, city in particular, has property values DECREASING.

Explain WHY, with all these handouts to the businesses you claim are investing millions, how come the tax base in the city is FALLING and has been FALLING each and every year under all these pilots.   Can you explain that????????   Well?????   Didn't think so.

Tell us WHY the city of the Schenectady is the HIGHEST, MOST OVER ASSESSED city in the WHOLE state of New York?   Can you answer that?   Well?   Didn't think so.

You claim the city is improving.   If it is, then WHY is the tax base falling EACH AND EVERY YEAR, why are home values falling, why are taxes rising while essential city services are being reduced and why is Schenectady tops in crime?   Well?    Didn't think you would answer that.

No one wants to respond to or address the root causes of Schenecady's  (and of other citiesand counties  in New York) downward spiral beginning in the mid 1900's.   The root causes are the major problems - not PILOTS nor Metroplex.
The hundreds of unfunded state mandates are among the root causes.  Which one of the state legislators, who have represented the city and or the count, of either party has stood up, addressed and fought for an end to new unfunded mandates and rolling back those already in place.  Tonko - no, Farley - no .. the others - no.    Unfunded state mandates must be addressed in order to remove one of the huge root problems that hurt and hold back every municipality and county in New York State.
There are other root causes - I'll say something about each of them when I have more time.

Keep blaming the unfunded mandates.   But that is statewide and despite the unfunded mandates most other municipalities are seeing their tax bases rise, home values and home sales up AND they have lower taxes than the city of Schenectady -- you know, that city that you refuse to live in and pay those high taxes and see your home value fall.

I will keep saying that unfunded mandates are one of several root causes of the problems in Schenectady and other cities in New York State --- because its true.

I can't help it if you can only see things in "black and white" and "everyone has to 100% agree with me or else."  That is your problem to deal with.

BTW -- Have you moved into the city?  Have you done anything more than just moan and complain about the city?

First you blamed the real estate crisis and I proved that is not the cause of Schenectady's problems because home values all around the city are increasing while the city continues to fall.

Unable to contradict that FACT, then you go blaming the unfunded mandates, yet again, the property values of other cities and towns are increasing inspite of unfunded mandates while the property values in the city have been falling.

The city of Schenectady is THE HIGHEST OVER ASSESSED city in the whole state of New York; by law ALL assessments MUST be in the SAME, UNIFORM percentage of value, yet in Schenectady there are houses that are assessed at 200% of value and there are houses assessed at 50% of value, and all kinds of percentages in between.  The city is NOT IN COMPLIANCE with state law, and McCarthy REFUSES to obey state law and do a reassessment.  Many homeowners cannot afford to pay high priced lawyers to sue the city to get a reduction.   So please address the fairness in taxes of the city.

And NO, we will NOT live IN the city because we have brains.  We are not going to buy a house only to be underwater on a mortgage in a few months while taxes increase and services are reduced.

No, we do NOT "moan and complain."   We state FACTS which are supported with evidence so that people will learn the truth about what is going on in the city.   Where is YOUR EVIDENCE that the city is improving, show us with the taxes, show us with the assessment numbers, show us uniformity in the assessment values.

You claim the city is improving, it's oh so wonderful, but how come YOU REFUSE to live in the city, even as a renter.

You don't even want to enter the city.   Where were you all helping out at Concerned for the Hungry?   We were there both the days, every minute, that weekend before Thanksgiving, did not see you helping, but that means coming into the city.   You didn't want to work side by side with your fellow Democrat Santabarbara?

I agree that the state mandates are beyond ridiculous and burdensome to say the least.

BUT....since nys is solid blue dem.....it yet amazes me that the dem controlled communities don't bit@h.

Instead they stand in line with their hand out too.

I'm not saying this would be any different if nys was solid red rep....but nobody is doing nothing!!

and that is why folks are fleeing the state.

which is the same suggestion i give to folks who bit@h about Schenectady.....MOVE OUT AND UP!!

Like I said previously - no state legislator of either party that has represented the city or the county of Schenectady has ever stood to stop new unfunded state mandates nor roll back the hundreds of existing ones.  Tonko and Farley both rose up in seniority over too long of a career in the state legislature and both did NOTHING to stand up and address that issue.
Unfunded mandates are huge problem created by a series of Governors and State Legislators of BOTH parties.  It will take a bunch of legislators of BOTH parties to grow some and stand up to the leadership and the special interest groups that push these unfunded mandates onto the counties and municipal governments.   The question is which state legislators will have the guts to challenge "business as usual" in state government and take a stand on this issue.

To the other poster who claims I don't step into the city:  I will just say that his/her comment is bullshit.  I belong to and regularly attend 2 parishes that are in the city.  My office IS inside the city limits.  Through my work, I am actively engaged in collaborating with a number of entities that not only are in the city but make a huge contribution to improving things in the city.   I am in the city literally 7 days a week.  And finally - you don't need to worry your teeny, little brain where I was the weekend before Thanksgiving.  Rest assured that I was engaged for most of the weekend engaged in beneficial community outreach.  That's all you need to know.
