Galesi, et al.
Lupe, et al.

We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

How about the board of assessment member and her metroplex employed husband.  The couple who ILLEGALLY doubled dipped with the STAR exemption.  The couple who have faithfully paid their property & school taxes on their second home in Glen, but are TAX DEADBEATS on their Schenectady city house (and I can produce the evidence) but funny, they have money to give to McCarthy?

How is it they can afford to make political donations but they can't pay their property and school taxes in the city of Schenectady?

YEP, CRONIES OF MCCARTHY.  McCarthy looks away and does not take foreclosure action on them

Mr. Galesi is a good guy -- so is Mr. Buicko.

Good?   Sponging off our taxes?  Oh, of course, you don't pay property and school taxes so doesn't affect you.

If Galesi is so good, how come with his billions he won't pay out of is own pocket to demolish that old DSS building?   Ah, no answer to that question.

If Buicko is so good, how come he takes the tax dollars of Schenectady people but REFUSES to live IN the city, or even anywhere IN Schenectady county.

If Buicko is so good, why doesn't he use our tax dollars that he gets rich off of, and buy a house in Schenectady and raise his family in Schenectady?????   Why not, DV, tell us.   Tell us why Buicko won't have ANYTHING to do with living ANYWHERE IN Schenectady county and paying the tax bills, and having his home value fall, in exchange for all the perks he gets sponging off the taxpayers in Schenectady?

they ALL take the tax dollars.
if the reps were in charge of the 'wallet'.....it would be no different.
just the names would change for the 'friends and family' club!!!
it's the way Schenectady does business and always did....don't like it?....MOVE!!!!
...........cause there ain't nothing that's gonna change....even if hull gets elected.

The Times Union does not have the back bone to do the right thing for the struggling taxpayers and residents living in Schenectady’s City neighborhoods.  I bet none of these idiots on the editorial board lives in the City of Schenectady to really get a feeling what the people are really going through living in those neighborhoods. There is no mention of poverty, homelessness, drugs and violence in this article?  McCarthy has lined his pockets with Developers money and probably who knows the Times Union money as well.  What did the Times Union do that’s right they turned a blind eye to it? McCarthy refuses to give up his salary as Mayor. Why doesn’t the Times Union do the right thing to force him to give up his salary if he claims he is a public servant? Don’t you think Downtown has gotten too much money and it can sustain itself by now without more cash flowing in to it? It’s easy to say crime is perfectly fine in Schenectady when you don’t live in the City of Schenectady. Ticketing people is totally different from Stop and Frisk it is very misleading for a publication to fabricate lies and stir racial division. As for the tax lien sales as Councilman Gary McCarthy voted for the sale of those liens to the lien company when Brian Stratton was Mayor for 8 years.  This is what caused the housing mess in Schenectady in the first place. So we are giving him a pardon for his vote? Where is the journalistic moral integrity? There are more FOR SALE signs in Schenectady than there are buyers looking to buy a home. How is that good in moving a city forward? It speaks volumes that people are looking to escape from a high tax, high crime and low schools hell hole. Tax, crime and school are what home buyers are looking at which Schenectady doesn’t have neither to be proud of.  As for the monies promised from Rivers Casino is there a signed written agreement stating what the City is going to get from hosting the Casino that will ensure that we will get a 10% tax cut? If so publish it. Or is the Times Union ok with the back room deals the Mayor so often makes with developer and then flips flops on the promises of a tax cut? We are still waiting on a City wide reassessment on our homes the Mayor promised when he ran for Mayor in 2011. The Times Union need to be held more accountable to investigate further for the people who read their one sided paper. The city finances are not ok we owe the School district money that was not factored in to the Comptroller’s report. We keep kicking the can down the road but we will have to ultimately pay those outstanding bills.  Guess who will pay for it not the Times Union that’s right the struggling tax payers and residents of Schenectady will have to pay for it. As for McCarthy’s iron first approach to raising property taxes on people who make modest improvements on their homes. This endorsement from the Times Union just emboldens McCarthy to continue raising property taxes on people who make modest improvements on their homes. As for the Mayor he is kicking the can down the road to the future and the bills will keep on piling up in the rearview mirror like a Ponzi scheme ready to crash. The Times Union made a very big mistake in dishonest journalism.

Times Union Endrosement

Here’s our endorsement of Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy for reelection. You can also view the video of our editorial board meeting with him and Roger Hull:

In his four years as mayor of Schenectady, Gary McCarthy has brought a semblance of order to the problem of tax delinquent properties. There are programs under way to get people to buy and fix up derelict homes. Downtown continues to rebound. The city’s finances appear as stable as one can hope in an old northeastern city.

It’s not faint praise to say that Mr. McCarthy, a Democrat, has done a competent job as mayor. We mean it. He has laid a foundation on which the city can build. And it’s for that reason that we endorse him for another term.

Mr. McCarthy’s Republican opponent, former Union College President Roger Hull, is certainly a credible challenger. He is independent and energetic. We endorsed him when he ran against Mr. McCarthy in 2011. Mr. Hull has brought some good ideas to this race, but he hasn’t made the case to replace Mr. McCarthy.

Mr. McCarthy straightened out the mess that plagued the city’s tax delinquent properties after it sold tax liens to a private firm in order to quickly raise cash. Particularly for struggling non-profits, it became a nightmare. Under Mr. McCarthy, the city has rightly taken back a responsibility it should never have delegated.

That’s paired with the city’s thoughtful HOMES program, which actively markets Capital Region Land Bank and city-owned properties and offers grants to first-time home buyers. That will mean more reliable, ongoing revenue from taxes and fewer unoccupied homes standing as idle blight in neighborhoods.

We’re skeptical that Mr. Hull’s approach — to put more money into neighborhoods by redesigning the Metroplex Development Authority — can accomplish neighborhood revitalization. Businesses and homeowners are two very different things.

Schenectady today isn’t without its financial challenges. But in the latest analysis by the state comptroller, the city had a fiscal stress score of zero. That position is likely to strengthen, at least in the short term, when the city begins getting payments from the planned Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor.

Mr. Hull offers some ideas worth considering, including his proposal that the city not raise property taxes on people who make modest improvements on their homes if they don’t increase the square footage. The city’s aggressiveness in that area, he says, reduces the incentive to keep up and improve properties. Mr. McCarthy should heed that concern.

But we can’t agree with Mr. Hull’s approach to law enforcement, which seems to envision a forceful program similar to New York City’s controversial stop-and-frisk and “broken windows” efforts. The gains in reducing crime from that strategy too often come at the cost of civil liberties violations and greater racial tension. It’s not a wise approach for Schenectady, given the chaotic history of the police department, which seems to have finally been brought under control with solid leadership.

Mr. McCarthy is the first to admit that the improvements and changes he is bringing about are coming slowly. That’s fine — as long as the city is moving forward, not back. He deserves another four years to keep things going in the right direction.

The City is moving in the right direction with the highest taxes in NY state! Yep what a no brainer! Gary's H.O.M.E.S program fools first time home buyer in to believing that they are getting a deal in purchasing a home in Schenectady. Gary then raise property taxes on people who make modest improvements on their homes. There must be some dumb people out there to take that bait.

I was in a doctors office yesterday. I listened to a man talk about his high blood pressure  and his diabetes. He said the doctors were talking about cutting of his leg below the knee.
but he was still having a hard time changing his diet.

As I turned around I see a man dressed in a nice black Adidas track suit with white stripes going down the side- with nice running white shoes  .
His jacket was unzipped so his stomach had room.  At that moment I had a paradigm shift - I wanted to say something like holy sh!t dude are you kidding me ?
Do you exercise with  Starbucks in your hand ? so it doesnt spill

Were you that guy ? because it sounds like many of the people in this forum posting most of this political bull. Look in the mirror- you are probably the reason you think Schenectady sucks.
. fat and lazy is worse than dumb

Check the State Election Board website --  See the cronies that are supporting Hull.   Most of Hull's money is coming in $4,500 contributions from rich folks who live OUTSIDE Schenectady in NYC and other states.  Of course the Golubs gave $9,000.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the Golubs want from Hull.   The big question is what do all these rich out-of-towners want from Hull?
