"folks wanna die.....and HOSPICE can make it happen"
REALLY...how does Hospice make that happen, huh IDIOT!   That is my point.
Oh, and "they" as I said were the nurses and attending physician, not Hospice...can't you read IDIOT!
You can say Hospice is not new to you but obviously you have no clue about their services and what
they do...IDIOT!

oh,,,,I've been in nursing for over 20years....and yes, you cannot tell the difference between the morphine use or 'natural death'

here's the deal...again the government has made the victim the criminal much like the seat belt laws.....

people can be a detriment to themselves by life choices they make OR by something that was not their choice but inflicted...

cancer comes in many forms, some by life choices ie: smoking, eating too  much BBQ, etc , or by choices others make
such as agent orange , pesticides, pcbs etc.....

soooooo if a human is restricted in their choice they make whether that be in the first person(smoking etc) or by someone
else's choice (purchasing plastic with phenyl additives) believing the claims, even through the government regulation, of it's
safety and the human gets cancer, are they a victim or the criminal?

there is another school of thought that people believe that someone who commits suicide is 'selfish' regardless of some
God MD's diagnosis....who knows the mind of any other human???? NO ONE NADDA ZILCHO!!!!

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

My 88 year old mother wishes there was a Kevorkian starter kit.  She believes that she should have the right to choose how she slides out if she is ill.  Those are tough words for a child to hear.  But palliative care does exist and it is helpful and dignified.  Two of my former students aged 62 were and are hospice patients.  Fire Chief Bob Forezzi died ten days ago and was on Hospice care and Ed O'Brien is now receiving palliative care through Hospice. All of this public knowledge of course but the point is Hospice was the choice.

Bumble the practices in place are not a one size fits all solution and leave many people to suffer for far longer than they should. These new laws are written solely to negate old laws. I'm suprised that you are taking the position that the government can force many people to suffer when there is no hope.

Quoted from joebxr

United States: In the past, many states had laws that regarded the act of suicide as a felony, but these laws were seldom enforced. In the 1980s, 30 out of 50 United States has no laws opposing suicide or attempting suicide. With that said, all 50 states had laws stating that assisted suicide is a felony. Currently there is no law against the act of committing suicide in the United States.

In some cases though, suicide is considered “common law crime” unless the victim can be proven to have been of “unsound mind.” Most lawsuits regarding suicide happen when the person is under supervision of a jail or hospital and the victim’s family sues these institutions for negligence. Physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill is legal in Oregon and Washington.

In cases of physician-assisted suicide, the patient must have less than 6 months to live, be of sound mind, make a request vocally and on paper, have it approved by multiple physicians, and then wait 15 days, followed by another request. In the state of California, all medical facilities are required to send all suicidal people in for evaluation and treatment.

Yep, a victim if you commit suicide.

They should also be fined.

my point IS.....it is done every single day......without gov almighty's stamp of approval.

either with morphine, withholding fluids, pulling plugs....etc

they stick an O2 tube in your nose to make the dying process 'easier'.

BUT.........it's all done without the government's stamp of approval.

they've been pulling plugs and administering morphine for DECADES!!!

like I said before.....I've seen it many many many times........up close and very very personal.....WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT ISSUED LAW!

............and each case is obviously different AND personal...........but the end result is the same.............DEATH!

NO NEW LAWS NEEDED..........THAT IS MY POINT!!!

Some how Bumbling Bumbler equates using morphine to relieve pain, with killing people.
Bumbler often posts out of his butt, but this thread sets a new standard for Bumbler
Bat-$hit-insane.

In Bumbler's world sick and dying people should be forced to endure the pain and
shut up even though pain relief is readily available.

Hopefully Bumbler, if you should some day need pain relief, it will be available for you
and you may learn just how totally asinine your posts have been.

people just don't understand the very very very thin line of easing suffering and death....giving morphine DOES kill the
patient, but not in the way people think...we've been using morphine to 'ease' folks into painlessness for centuries...

assisted suicide is long before the weak stages when a person with strength/mind still intact chooses to die before they
are wetting their pants, unable to eat/drink and too weak to sit up....

the ONLY difference is in the 'victims' bodily function and awareness.....

morphine is frequently used at end of life when a person is 'not conscious' appearing to everyone at the bedside...the body goes
through motions that everyone around the bedside believe is 'suffering'....

a person having pain until given enough morphine to subdue that pain CAN bring on death because death IS the pain relief
but no one on the outside of that person's body really knows. We just 'read the signs' and interpret.

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

To Bumbler, From Hospice:

Quoted Text
It is not the stage of a terminal illness, but the degree of pain that dictates which medicine
to use. We start with the mildest medicine and if it works, stop there. If it doesn’t we move on, to
morphine when it’s appropriate. Some people never need morphine, while others will require it for
quite a while. You can live for a long time on morphine.

Quoted Text
Fortunately, patients quickly adjust to any effect that morphine may have on their breathing.
We prescribe a small initial dose, gradually increasing it if needed. So rarely do breathing problems
occur, they are usually not even listed as side effects. In fact morphine is a drug of choice for breathing
distress in people with end-stage heart or lung disease: it makes their breathing more comfortable.

AGAIN...............everyone is missing the point...............IT'S BEING DONE, AND HAS BEEN, FOR DECADES AND DECADES!!!

No law was needed then OR now.

imo....this issue is just another government attempt to garner votes and divide the people on a subject that was and has been common practice.

obviously the good ole' government needs to create yet ANOTHER law.....for votes!!!
