It is being reported as an accidental, self-inflicted shooting incident that ended in a fatality.  I am neither going to second guess the police nor the media.  There are many legitimate reasons to delay or not publicize a story.

The police are certainly not required to make every piece of information available to everyone the moment that they receive it.  There are very legitimate reasons to withhold information --- for example - to not jeopardize an ongoing investigation.   In this case, it was an accidental shooting and, quite frankly, none of anyone's business - once it was determined that no crime was committed - outside the immediate family and the police.
