The proposal for turning the old Draper School into housing for veterans has been dead for a long time. The non-profit organization that proposed it never followed through. So you can't criticize the government for that. |

The old Draper school building is now owned by a private individual - not by the school district or any other government entity. The new owner did float a proposal to renovate the building but never followed through. The only thing that I can say for certain is that it will take a HUGE amount of money to do anything with the building as it is now.
Personally, I would have loved to see the site (not the building):
a) become the home for a new Police Station/Justice Court and possibly for a new Town Community Center for people of ALL ages. Then the property that the Senior Center and the Police Station/Justice Court could be cleared and put up for sale as "shovel ready" properties, or
b) be subdivided into single family residential building lots that would fit the character of the neighborhood. |
