Iran nuclear deal: Fine 'new chapter' or 'historic mistake'?

Associated Press Videos

The deal sets in motion a years-long test of Iran's willingness to keep its promises to the world — and the ability of international inspectors to monitor compliance. It also sets the White House up for a contentious fight with a wary Congress and more rocky relations with Israel, whose leaders furiously opposed the agreement.

Appealing to skeptics, President Barack Obama declared that the accord "offers an opportunity to move in a new direction. We should seize it."

Under terms of the deal, the culmination of 20 months of arduous diplomacy, Iran must dismantle much of its nuclear program in order to secure relief from biting sanctions that have battered its economy. International inspectors can now press for visits to Iran's military facilities, though access is not guaranteed. Centrifuges will keep spinning, though in lesser quantities, and uranium can still be enriched, though at lower levels.

In a key compromise, Iran agreed to continuation of the U.N.'s arms embargo on the country for up to five more years and ballistic missile restrictions for up to eight years. Washington had sought to keep the arms ban in place, while Russia and China joined Iran in pushing for an immediate suspension.

On the streets of Tehran, Iranians honked their horns and celebrated in the city's main square. President Hassan Rouhani said a "new chapter" had begun in his nation's relations with the world, even as he denied Iran had ever pursued a nuclear weapon.http://news.yahoo.com/formal-n.....QjAzODZfMQRzZWMDc2M-

I still don't understand how we can come to this agreement with a country that has promised death to the infidels, the great white satan ... and that still holds our citizens hostage (with NO provisions for it in the agreement).

We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

Bumbler admits that he doesn't have enough information...
Then he states he's SURE there is an oil deal.

Typical of many of bumbler's post... IT HAS TO BE A CONSPIRACY... IT JUST HAS TO BE.

The senate ratifies treaties.  Separation of powers.  The president isn't a dictator.

YUP! It's up to the senate to OK this deal.  Obama has all he can to protect the USA, it's up
to the senate to finish the deal.

How can we trust the Iranians!

The 1953 Iranian coup d'état, known in Iran as the 28 Mordad coup, was the
overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran Mohammad Mosaddegh
on 19 August 1953, orchestrated by the United Kingdom (under the name "Operation Boot")
and the United States (under the name TPAJAX Project)

YES... HOW CAN WE TRUST THE IRANIANS!!!

It's real questionable whether this deal will do anything to protect us from the Iranians...
Yes, 98% of the enriched Uranium THAT WE KNOW ABOUT, will be removed from the Country...but why do they need 2%?
NO enriched Uranium is needed for power generation.. Nuclear weapons research is NOT banned in this agreement. They can keep experimenting and improving their refining process.

As far as inspection? The inspectors will give the Iranians 24 DAYS notice before they arrive to inspect a suspicious site. You would think that true verification would mean hours notice, not 3 1/2 WEEKS!

What the deal does do is give the Iranians an instant 100 billion and allows them start selling oil to the world.
This will result in a stronger Iran, not weaker...Its no wonder that no Country in the area, not mentioning Israel, is jumping up and down for this agreement. With a richer Iran, North Korea, who is starved for money, would gladly sell them a completed weapon.

It's not only the 'pubs that have serious reservations about this deal, Dems like Robert Menendez are asking questions too...

No deal is better than a bad one. The chances of this passing the Senate are slim.

So, Bt's hunch about an oil deal is accurate? I didn't get what that had to do with "conspiracy theories".
I think the whole deal is based on the premise that we (the United States), have been treating Iran unfairly, and that by showing our willingness to be fair and respect them as equals, they will change their attitude toward the US and we will be that much closer to peace in the Middle East. I would like Obama to be right about this, but I don't think he is.
Hillary Clinton is for this deal except for the parts she is against, but we aren't going to know which parts those are.

All that Iranian oil hitting the world market, will push the price of crude even lower.
