Could you install a powerwall ?  http://www.teslamotors.com/powerwall

Maybe you have  a no batteries allowed contract ?

Without pulling out my contract, I don't know. A friend pointed out that powerwall to me earlier this year.  It LOOKS cool, but it can only push 9.5amps ... which was discouraging and it was a massive beast - 200+ pounds.

You know anyone else seriously looking at it?

We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.   Funny how that works.

I dont know anyone- but I put 200 watts on the roof of my e250 van I got 2  golf cart batteries and a controller that shows me whats what- amps coming and going - totals hours and high low limits on the batteries.

I also put in a 1000-2000 peak inverter so I can run 110 - to charge tools, run the printer and tv -

but i think  the power-wall needs a lot of calculations to tell if it will work for you. Like if you have a system with optimal conditions  I hear you can recoup your investment is 4 years. Bad conditions 16 years.

Keep in mind that putting anything made of metal on your roof will make your home more likely to be hit by lightning.

Also look at your National Greed bill and you will see that you will still pay $90 a month just to be connected to them.

Last month's bill showed that they charged me $90 to deliver $64 worth of electric and $8 worth of gas.

I'd like an update on how the service is, after the federal subsidies run out.  How will they maintain the solar panels after 2021 without the subsidies?

Quoted from Box A Rox
As of 2013, current estimates are that 1.7 billion people in the world live off the grid.
According to Home Power Magazine, at least 180,000 families are living off the grid
in the United States and that number increases each year.

180,000 families translates into how many people?

The"grid" was born just about 100 years ago.

With the birth of the grid, came an end to clean air, water and lands.

In 100 years we have made the US a place where living your life and basic survival is heavily regulated and dispensed to subscribers.

Subject to acceptance of terms and conditions.
