There were two cars stolen in town yesterday. In one case, the one taken from in front of the pet store, the owner left the vehicle running unattended when they went inside. In the second case the vehicle was unlocked and a set of keys were left in the glove box. Stupid is as stupid does.

ROTTERDAM — Rotterdam police are telling residents to lock their car doors after five vehicles were stolen last week.
All of the vehicles were left unlocked with keys inside, police said, and at least one was left running.
The first vehicle was stolen Thursday from a Polsin Drive address in the town’s Highbridge neighborhood and found later that day in Schenectady, police said.
The other four were stolen over the weekend: one from the Highbridge Road area, one from a Princetown Road address and two from the Altamont Avenue area. Of those stolen vehicles, two were found in Schenectady and two are still missing.
Police arrested a male 15-year-old in connection with the Saturday theft of a 2015 Jeep Cherokee from outside a business on Altamont Avenue.
The teen is accused of stealing the vehicle, which was left running outside the business when it was stolen, police said. It was recovered shortly after when it was abandoned in a parking lot off Broadway in Schenectady, police said.
The juvenile, whose name and place of residence were not released, was identified based on a brief description provided at the scene of the theft, police said. A vehicle that matched the description of the stolen Jeep was also reported being seen at a residence of the juvenile’s acquaintance, police said.
Police have not determined whether or not the 15-year-old was involved in the other thefts.
Police advise residents to lock their vehicles at all times and to not leave keys or valuables inside. Suspicious activity should be reported to police at 630-0911.
Anyone with information regarding the thefts is asked to call Rotterdam detectives at 355-7397.
