A double dose of great RENAISSANCE news --
the unveiling of the new Challenger program at the Schenectady Museum of Innovation and Science
and
the merger of Clarkson University and Union Graduate College with its new hub to be located in Schenectady.

The City-County of Schenectady is looking better and feeling stronger everyday!

Clarkson and union -  you are many months late on this news about one little building the city in the back corner of the old two-guys parking lot

The second is nothing more than re-arranging deck chairs... Union had a Graduate college, and now it has half of one, the other half belonging to Clarkson. Addition by subtraction and nothing more.

The formal announcement just came a couple of weeks ago.  It is an important news story that hasn't been discussed here.  Furthermore, Clarkson is bringing its administrative hub here and looking at further growth of its programs in Schenectady.

Bottom line -- it is good news for Schenectady .. and apparently you and the other nayboobs can't stand good news in relation to Schenectady.

With all the "good news" in regard to business, why hasn't the residents seen ANY relief in their taxes? Why haven't the neighborhoods improved? Why haven't ALL the city pools opened? Why is the bridge at Oak St STILL closed?

Anybody been to that museum recently? It's undergoing renovation, I hope it's worth it, because right now the museum isn't worth it.
Yipee! A new building connected to an institute of Higher Education! It WILL BE "Good For Schenectady"! I wonder if any new buildings will be backward to the main street. That looks great.

So DV, are you saying that the ever falling tax base, the falling home values, the reduction in essential services, and the increasing taxes mean that the city is getting stronger every day???????

Can you provide a teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE that things are getting better every day?   How about explaining the relationship of all these projects to the one and two years it takes for houses in the city to sell.   How about explaining the relationship of all these projects to the falling home sale prices.   How about explaining the relationship of these projects to the tax base.

Well???????

And a tax exempt property.

Ditto anything to do with Union College, any school related property is tax exempt.

And DV should provide some EVIDENCE which lists where anyone connected to this stuff are living and buying houses.

Any reasonable and intelligent person would see that Clarkson University wants to be a part of the Tech Valley and has chosen to establish a base in Schenectady in conjunction with Union Graduate College.  BTW - that Union Graduate College building is awesome looking.
This is going to lead to more high tech graduate students being trained here in Schenectady -- which will provide a pool of well-qualified persons to go to work in high tech firms that will eventually locate in the City-County of Schenectady.

One of the best tech universities has chosen the best City-County in America to set up shop.  The RENAISSANCE City-County warmly welcomes Clarkson University.

not saying if this is a good thing or not....don't really care.....

However, this 'merger' is not to benefit Schenectady.....first...there ain't nobody smart enough in Schenectady...second...ain't nobody who can afford it in Schenectady.

It is basically for their alumni. Clarkson didn't have a graduate program and in fact some of the clarkson grads were at union.....so they merged....simple as that!

And both of these colleges are connected to 'the big corporations'.

no saying it's a bad thing.....just saying it isn't for Schenectady.....Union college made the offer to clarkson...so it had NOTHING to do with 'the betterment' of Schenectady.

I would respectfully disagree with you -- it is a benefit to Schenectady and there are a many very intelligent young people in Schenectady -- and some of them will end up at this school.  The reason that it is a benefit to Schenectady is that the hub of the program will be located here.  It becomes one of the "magnets" that attracts more new high tech development and attracts people to live in the city.  College and university towns are very popular places for both younger and older folks with disposable income to live.  It will certainly have a lot to do with "the betterment" of Schenectady.
